So I'm trying my cup for the first time and the suction is CRAZY!! I feel like I'm sucking out my uterus when I pull on it. I've got two main questions...:

1. When I grabbed the cup it kind of burst air up into me. I once heard (probably crap, but still worrisome...) that having air blown into you down there can cause major health problems. Does anyone know if this is true?

2. Is it normal to have ridiculous suction?

I'm mostly concerned about bursting air into my self because of the stories I've heard.  Please humor me even if this is completely ridiculous...

Thank you!!

Its completely ridiculous.

Having air blown into ou CAN kill you, but it needs to be a lot of air at high force.

You're ok.

yea, my mom tried this on her ex husband in hopes of it having the same effect to no avail, it dissapointed her cause the man was a read creep. so i dont think you have much to worry about.

Pardon? I'm sure I must be missing a joke somewhere, but your mum either 1) tried a menstrual cup on her ex, or 2) tried to kill him by blowing air into an unspecified orifice?

*blink*

um, the second, she tried to cause an air bubble whenever she would give him oral, it never worked. but if ever a man deserved to have that happen to him it was him.

That must've been an interesting mother/daughter conversation!!!! hahaha. :)

The stories are ridiculous.

Also, be aware that the same area that "puffs" inside of you has been sitting there for X amount of time.... so you're not introducing any new germs or anything, other than what's on your hands during removal.

I get plenty of air inside during intercourse in certain positions. If I remember correctly, it's large amounts of air within a few weeks of giving birth that are dangerous (although I might be remembering what I read wrong, and it may not have even been correct in the first place!)

That's correct. It's during pregnancy because then there are big vessels from the placenta, and air can sometimes get into there. Otherwise it's not a problem.

1. No worries on that score. It has to be a lot of air under a lot of pressure to do anything.

2. Also normal!

Thanks!
This community is awesome! (although I'm a little concerned about the murder attempt by way of blowing air into orifices...)

Thank you for responding! Where else could I get reassured about quasi-ridiculous occurances with my mentrual cup? haha

Quasi-rediculous?
Last time I checked, a true question was not rediculous. We are here to impower women and get the word about Menstrual Cups out. There are so many old wives tales out there it can be scary! Use your cup in good health, you are one of the world's changers.

it's not ridiculous, I was really scared too! People assured me that it would need to be a lot more air than can fit in the cup, though, so I think we're safe, hehe.

I had some insane suction too when I first tried my cup, but if you can pull it down far enough that you can get a finger up close to the rim of the cup, press the cup closed and it will release suction. You'll hear a sucking sound as it pulls air into the cup from around your finger, after which its MUCH easier to remove! Make sure you press it closed right at the top, otherwise you'll squish out the contents. =)
