So I had one of those anti-cup moments last night/very early this morning, and believe you me, it was just about the grossest thing I've ever had to deal with. I'm actually surprised it didn't go as far as it did... Look behind the cut if you want details. >< I guess it wasn't really anti-cup so much as it was anti-period, now that I think about it. It didn't turn me off the cup or think it was less great... It just makes me want to kill the higher power who decided we need to have them.
I jumped in the shower after stripping off my nightgown (which also had blood on the hem) and panties (which were so soaked I just threw them out) and rinsed off. Once I had, I squatted down and pulled the cup out. It came out easily, of course. And then, what really grossed me out, a small palmful of blood clots fell out of me onto the shower floor. The cup was also over half full with blood/blood clots. It was so disgusting. I'm actually glad I was half-asleep at the time, or I would have really spazzed out. I think what happened was that when all these gross clots piled up, the blood couldn't get into the cup - enter mess on my bedroom floor!
I finished showering, then got out and re-inserted the cup. I went into the bedroom to assess the damage, and discovered it wasn't as bad as I had thought. There was blood on my floor, but none on my mattress or sheets - which relieved me, because I was expecting to have to clean up a flood!
It was pretty gross, I'll admit. Sorry if I grossed anyone out, but I had to live through it.... I'm still glad I have the DivaCup, though, because it makes me wonder what would have happened otherwise. When I wore pads at night, I used to squeeze my vagina muscles to keep as much blood in as possible. In the morning, I'd usually see dark shapes at the bottom of the toilet through the water, so I figure that was part of this. I hope it never happens again, though. ><
P.S. - Has anything like this ever happened to anyone else?
