I've been using a Mooncup for almost five years. In that time several of my friends have got their own and I've seen a lot more women become aware of them. It's cool.

Anyway, I had teething troubles. The first month was difficult but after about three I'd pretty much got the hang of it. Removal was a little uncomfortable, but using a cup was still worth it.

Recently I've realised that I'm past that stage, and insertion and removal are both non-events. If I used a tampon now I don't think I'd find those bits any easier. I don't know how long it's been like this, maybe a year? At least six months.

So how many of you are over all the discomfort, and how long did it take?

I use a Diva, and I think I'm coming up the 2nd year anniversary of when I bought it. I'm pretty sure I've mastered insertion, removal and wearing it without any leakage, and it's been that way for the last two cycles too. So about 2 years in all.

But even before I'd mastered it all, I was still comfortable and happy using it - 600 times more so than using tampons.

It took me two full cycles to feel comfortable with my diva. In fact I partially gave up in the first month, switching back to tampons for most of my period.
It's been over a year and a half and it's like second nature now.

At my third cycle I thought I'd perfected it but without having any complaints things do seem to get even easier each time.

I was 19! Damn whippersnapper.

So, do you mean that right from the beginning you were able to insert and remove the cup with no discomfort or faff at all? That's what I've achieved recently, I thought a little discomfort on removal was just something that happened.

I have both the Diva and US Mooncup, and I never experienced any pain or discomfort when inserting or removing. The first day it was a bit strange to learn about the suction & how to tell if its completely open(did a dry run) but the next day my period came and I never had trouble or a leak.

I'm 19 and just started using a cup. I'm on my second cycle. It's starting to become a non-event. But I can't imagine having no discomfort getting it in or out, that'd be awesome though. It's an ow-ow as I pull it out and an ow-ow-ow as I shove it in. Then I'm good to go. My first cycle definitely had some serious getting in and out problems though. I'm hoping I'll get it perfected this cycle before being a camp counselor this summer!

Took me about three to four cycles to get really comfortable (I nearly gave up in tears the first time, 'cuz I just couldn't seem to get the hang of it, but I'm stubborn and kept trying the next cycle) dealing with insertion/removal in a private bathroom, a little longer (9 months-ish?) to deal with it in public bathrooms. But once it clicked, it clicked, and now I know exactly if I've gotten it in right or not.

I've only had one cycle so far and insertion and removal of my Mooncup UK has been surprisingly easy. My first insertion hurt as I tried a c fold - I then tried punch down which did the trick. My first removal hurt as it was too big on the way out but if I squish it a bit more it is no problem. After that everything has been fine, it seems to pop open itself with no additional help required.

I feel suspicious about how easy it has been and not even a single spot of a leak. I think I have been very fortunate, especially so when reading about teething troubles of others. I only wish I had found this years ago (I am 38). I have just given away all my stockpiled sanitary products - that felt great!!

I didn't have any discomfort, but I did take 2-3 cycles to nail a minor leaking issue.

I bought a Keeper in late 2002 (I actually posted here right before I bought it!) and have been using a Divacup exclusively since fall 2003.

I had issues because of leakage, so I switched to a bigger sized cup (I use a mooncup UK - I'm 23 and have had one caesarean birth). I had a nightmare of a time when I first started, gave up, then used it for a while in conjunction with cloth.

Now I've used it for 4 cycles, it's a complete non event for me too. I pop it in and out with no problems, it's incredibly comfortable, to the point where I ocasionally forget it's there, and my whole period is a complete non event.
