Saving blood

Here's a question for all you new agey peeps who use your blood to fertilise plants.

How do you save/preserve the blood? I'm wanting to use my blood to fertilise my herb garden, I can see it being all awesome and Earth Mothery for me, really, it's the ultimate in recycling. But considering how much commercial liquid fertiliser I need to water all my herbs, I'd have to collect some of the blood up first then dilute it and water with it.

I was thinking maybe putting the blood in a jar with a bit of water in it to stop it drying out, but I imagine it will still get pretty darn stinky as bacteria grows in it, especially seeing as I'll be storing it in the shed.

Any ideas?
