Etiquette?

I just got my first cup today, so I haven't had much opportunity to take it out on dates with me. But I wanted to jump in before it came to it: what if you have to empty it in public? Obviously, the emptying isn't the issue; is it safe to go one time without rinsing if there are other people using the sinks? Is it a terrible idea to wash it in public bathrooms at all? I don't necessarily think its a safety issue if it doesn't touch the sink at all, but I also don't think anyone wants to walk into a restroom to see that. What's the norm procedure for public bathrooms?
