my divacup smells just like the fruit juice i drank yesterday and today!
except... maybe a little yuckier.
but it's gross!

so i busted out the apple cider vinegar to soak it an try to get rid of that nasty smell, and my cup actually smells exactly like the vinegar. it's really disgusting.

why/how did my apple-strawberry juice ferment inside my vagina to make my cup smell so bloody weird!?

I know that if you eat a lot of onions or garlic the smell starts to come out in your armpits, and someone else has said it comes out in the smell of your vagina too, so maybe that's it.

that reminds me of my sister, though. her sweat always smelled just like pickles since she ate 'em all the time.

My boyfriend thinks I'm weird, but I actually LOVE when my vagina smells like garlic. Maybe because I love garlic so much. Mmmm... yum.

hmm. well, that is kinda weird. ;)
probably because i hate garlic though. the smell makes me wanna vom!

How much juice did you drink? I think that's really interesting that the day after, your cup smelled like the juice you drank. Like I said in a previous post, "I drink insane amounts of orange juice and my vag almost smells citrus-y, I think. Not a 'refreshing citrus cent!' smell, but it's definitely has a citrus kick." But I don't think it's strange for my vag to be orangey because I consume SO much orange juice & about 2-3 oranges a day. Do you usually not consume this juice? Wow, that's really interesting! Next time, maybe you should just boil your cup or clean it with rubbing alcohol? It works for me.

I drink coffee every day, and I've never noticed a coffee smell from my vagina. That is weird.
miss_francon on March 15th, 2006 07:35 pm (UTC)
Me too! Not all the time, maybe because I don't drink it everyday, but I've definitely noticed that.

i think the weirdest part is i never would have smelled anything (i rarely ever even have a smell on my undies) if it weren't for my interaction with the cup. heh.

I sometime eat fermented herring, and I've noticed my cunt smells like it the day after. For those not familiar with the smell: It stinks like something that died a week ago... Not very nice.

Yup... That was what I said before I remembered what I ate.

"Arrrgh! Something crawled up my vag and died!"

putting a cup in a small bowl of baking soda for a day or two will get the smell out. no good while using it, but when you are done...

I've noticed this before too. I was fighting off a cold so drank a bunch of orange juice and was very startled when my divacup smelled like juice!

Personaly I boiled it, it still smelled like orange juice but not as strongly. so I just put it back in its bag. by the next month the smell was gone.

good to know.
it's not a bad smell... smells exactly like apple cider vinegar.
just wasn't the smell i wanted to smell when i was playing with my vagina juice.

It's pretty normal for foods you consume to change the smell of your bodily fluids. It can also effect taste (of fluids)... or so I've heard at least, lol!

But, one thing I'd like to mention, is that I don't think you should use vinegar to clean your diva. I usually just boil mine, and I've heard of people cleaning it with rubing alcohol, but there was recently a discussion on a menstrual cup group I belong to regarding the effects of vinegar and silicone. Here it is:

"It is better not to use vinegar for a silicone cup, mayby only when it is very diluted. Silicone react not good when using a high or low pH cleaning material.

Do you have any sources on that? I'm not trying to be snarky or anything, I've just never heard that before. :-)
Anyway, yes diluted it best and usually 50:50 vinegar/water is what's recommended.

I asked divacup if I could use vinegar, they did answer I had to look on their site, but I couldn't find anything. Here are some sources I found.
Chemical Resistance. Silicones resist water and many chemicals, including some acids, oxidizing chemicals, ammonia, and isopropyl alcohol. Concentrated acids, alkalines, and solvents should not be used with silicones.
Silicone material is not resistant to ketone, ether, esper, acids and alkalines.

I know vinegar is what is recomended to clean the Keeper, but it is a totally different material and can't be boiled like the Diva.
I'm not trying to be mean or anything, just though you might want to know... :)

Hmm, I've never experienced the "fruity patootie" issue, but I love hot and spicy food, and when I eat hot chili peppers (japapeno, serrano, habanero, etc.) while on my period, my cup always smells spicy afterwards! heh :)

It's my understanding that fruit juices can cause male ejaculate to take on a fruity taste, so I wouldn't be surprised if that "flavoring enhancement" also applies to women. :)
