Hello everyone,

It's been a long time. I used to have a Fleurcup L. It was great for five years but I always had trouble with leaks on heavier days. So I decide to give a shorter cup a shot, but also one that can handle a heavy flow. So I went with the Meluna regular M. I am trying to practice wearing the cup so that when my period starts again (been using Junel Fe for birth control) I will be used to wearing it.

The problem is I can't get it open. I have tried the C-fold, punch down fold, and double punch down folds and they all don't work. I've tried plunging the cup (that used to work with the Lunette and Fleurcup) and I've tried rotating it and using my index finger to help the cup open up once it's inside. Used a lot of lube to make it easier to slide in. Washed with warm water and rinsed with cold. All of these things that used to work do not work with this cup. I am frustrated and ready to give up but I want to give it one last shot. So to Meluna users, what do you all do?

I have a teeny tiny Meluna Shorty for light days; it's not as easy to open as my Fleur or Mooncup. Punch-down fold didn't work, I couldn't make it pop out. I use the 7 fold for it and make sure one of the holes is inside the fold, and use my finger to push the vaginal wall away to make space for it to come open. Also rotating it by pushing it around with my finger beside it, not by twirling the base, can help. Even when it's open it stays pretty well squashed flat, but blood does end up inside it.

I think if I didn't have so much extra room - if the cup was a normal width and fitted closely - it would be even harder to get open.

I found the best fold for my meluna is the labia fold. Simply because there's a little nub towards base of the cup that I can push up and encourage the cup to pop more easily than any other fold I've tried! I also find it doesn't feel 'open' - it's a little squished up but I find as long as it's unfolded it hasn't mattered if it's flat :) (recently got another cup - Merula - and finally experienced the effortless 'pop' that people talk about!)

Hope that helps! :)
