Hey everyone,

I really need some advice! I've been reading through the posts here and decided to try a menstrual cup. I have heavy periods (super tampons fill up in an hour or two my first few days) and the convenience of not having to run to the bathroom constantly was really appealing to me. Since I am currently on my period I wanted to try one right away (probably my first mistake) and bought a Diva Cup size one since they're available in store.

I am a virgin, so inserting it was kind of painful but I got it in using a C fold. Unfortunately, I quickly realized it was in completely wrong and was seriously stuck. I think I might have gone a little too vertically instead of horizontally when I inserted it, and the stem got caught behind my pubic bone. It also felt like it hadn't opened up all the way and was kind of squished in there so I'm not sure if it was high enough. But at the same time the stem was so high up that if it was any higher I fear I wouldn't be able to reach it at all. I tried for nearly an hour and I could not get a good enough grip on the stem or the bottom of the cup to get it out. I was able to get a finger up along the side and kind of squish it (hoping to break any kind of suction seal) but that didn't help any. I also couldn't get two fingers in at a time which made things more difficult. Eventually, I had to call in the cavalry and my amazing roommate put some gloves on and got it out for me with the help of some tweezers saving me a trip to the doctor. We are now closer than we've ever been before. lol

So now my vagina really hurts, and I am really scared to try again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I really don't want to give up on cups because if I got them to work they would make my life so much easier.

Sounds like you have a high cervix if the stem was hard to reach. Enlarging the holes will help with suction but not with length. If you otherwise liked the design, try the longer and softer iCare. My Small was 83mm with stem out of the package--I actually had to trim the stem a bit! (I have an off center cervix though, so I have to compromise on stem length for those flat tab stems or they rub against my wall too much) Mine was $5 off AliExpress and they come in a lot of cute colors https://menstrualcups.wordpress.com/2014/07/17/icare/

If you're not a fan of the Diva design I might recommend the Si-Bell--it's also so soft that it doesn't create suction and can simply be pulled out.
