Hello,

I have seen one other post with a similar issue, but as it was from a while ago and I have some extra questions, I thought I would post again. I have been really excited to receive my Lunette as based on trial and error and some research, I'm thinking it might be my 'goldilocks' cup. I haven't tried it yet, but after opening the package I am a tiny bit concerned as the cup itself has a distinct plastic-y smell (the smell is even almost a bit sweet). From what I understand, silicone shouldn't really smell, and neither of my previous cups smelled anything like this when they were new (I have the Diva and Mooncup UK - currently selling in the MC_Sales community if you're interested). I am kind of trepidatious about using the cup now because of the odd smell. I even ordered a clear Lunette specifically because I wanted to make sure my cup was purely silicone as I am paranoid about what goes inside me! Lol.

The cup arrived with quite a bit of dust on it, as well as some bluish flecks that I'm thinking might be residue from the box (it is blue-coloured on the inside). I guess the smell might be related to the dust/residue? Has anybody else had a similar experience with a Lunette or any other cup? I have heard a lot of great things about the Lunette so I wasn't really expecting it to smell like a 'cheap' cup.

On a kind of unrelated note, I noticed my Lunette has slanted air-holes. I have read about a few other cups having slanted holes, but haven't been able to find anything on the Lunette's holes being slanted; I don't mind, but am just curious if this is a new thing for Lunette cups or if the holes have always been this way.

Thanks for any input! :)

Lunette
Where did you order your Lunette from? Was it from the Lunette website, or another supplier?

If you got it from another supplier, that sounds suspicious, especially with the slanted air holes. Lunettes do not have slanted air holes. If you got it from the Lunette website, you should contact Lunette right away and explain the situation. I once got a cup that came out of the mold not quite right, and they were very gracious about changing it out.

I've owned 3 Lunettes, and am about to order a 4th. Sometimes they have a faint smell from sitting inside a plastic wrap, but it goes away immediately with washing (I use Lunette cup wash). Something isn't right here. Especially with the sweet smell.

Re: Lunette
Hi,

Thanks for your input! I ordered mine from FeminineWear.co.uk (shipping would have been super expensive directly from Lunette as I am in Canada, and Amazon had much longer shipping times). I did research the site first and it seems trustworthy from what I've read.

I would be more concerned about a knock-off or something, except that the lunette came in a sealed box (the lunette label extended over the box opening) and it looks pretty legit. At this point I don't want to knock the supplier because I am not sure the issue was caused on their end, but I will do some more digging. If the slanted holes and odd smell are definitely not normal for Lunette, I will get in touch with the supplier and see what they can do. I did email Lunette about it to see what their advice was. I'm thinking possibly I just received a faulty cup?

I will post an update if I hear back from Lunette or FeminineWear about it.

Re: Lunette
Yeah, FeminineWear is a good site. I'd guess you got a faulty cup. Definitely talk tot Lunette.

Just an update - I heard back from the Lunette company about my questions/concerns (they were really fast and got back to me in about a day). They didn't seem worried about the smell and said the plastic-y smell can sometimes occur during shipping because the cup is not sealed away in an airtight package and can pick up some smells from packaging. They said the smell should go away after washing/boiling, so I'm hoping that is the case.

They also confirmed that the airholes for Lunette are now slanted as their manufacturing process has changed, so that is good to know as well. All in all, I feel pretty comfortable about the cup now and am just hoping that they are correct about the plastic smell disappearing after boiling.

If I have any problems, I will post an update, but I'm hoping things will go okay after the initial cleaning of the cup :).

Same here!
I just got my first lunette that I ordered directly from lunette.com in the US. It had the blue flecks and sweet/paper smell. I have smelled knock off cups and this definitely smells differently. I washed and boiled it and I am pretty sure I can't smell anything... Maybe a very very faint smell left, but I may be imagining. I do have a sensitive nose. Mine also has slanted holes. Anyway I hope this helped put your mind at ease. I've heard the website you referred to as being legit and I bought mine directly and had the same smell and shavings I believe. :). If only it didn't come on the last day of my period!

Thanks for the reassurance! :) That is good to know. Hope the Lunette works out well for you! I haven't used mine yet but am looking forward to trying it out. I just boiled mine today and it seemed to help with the smell so we will see how it goes!
