Hey guys!

I was recently diagnosed with BV and was given the antibiotics in the form of a vaginal gel (Metrogel). While using the medication, I started my period. Currently I am using pads, but I was wondering if there are any problems using my cup instead? i.e. Will the materials of the cup be corroded from the gel? I've googled this and haven't found any answers. I'm not planning to use my cup right after using the gel, but I'm done with the treatment tonight and I was considering putting my cup back in tomorrow (since I drive back to college tomorrow and I HATE pads).

Any thoughts? Or experiences with this? Thanks in advance :)

Note: I've boiled all my cups to prevent possible reinfection as a precaution.

According to Google, the active ingredients are in a water-soluble gel that I IMAGINE is similar to water-based lubricant. And that makes me GUESS that it won't harm a silicone cup. If in doubt, use disposables.

Thanks!!! I didn't even make this connection of it being a water-soluble gel.

Yup, as long as there's nothing in the ingredient list that ends in "cone" (dimethicone, cyclomethicone--the stuff in frizz serum that you put in your hair) or petroleum/petrolatum, it shouldn't be damaging. I have a petrolatum-based nystatin ointment that I pull out occasionally for really bad yeast infections and I blame that stuff for breaking the stem off one of my old Si-Bells.

I know this is a few days old but I've had a few nasty experiences with BV and, while the medicine probably won't hurt your cup, using your cup with it probably isn't the best idea if you want to kick the infection. If your cup sits actually sits low like the diagrams, it's probably okay, but if it rides up like mine does, it's likely keeping the medicine from running down the walls like its supposed to, so it can kill all the nasty stuff. If I were you, I'd stick to pads. BV's a bitch to get rid of sometimes.
