I am new to LiveJournal and New to using a cup so please forgive me. I have read several posts on here but I am just not sure what I'm doing wrong. I got a Sckoon cup, the larger sized one because I have had two babies both vaginal births. The main problem I'm having is that half the time the cup works like a charm and half the time it doesn't work at all... and the issue is I can't tell what it is I'm doing differently when it works and when it doesn't. I literally put it in, it seems to pop open and be in place and sometimes it works and fills up, sometimes it leaks within minutes and when I take it out it's clear that no blood even went inside the cup, just down the outside of it. Is this a problem with the size or shape of this particular cup? Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Sounds like you're missing your cervix. It could be low or "dangly" and sitting to the side of your cup. Can you feel round the cup with your finger to the rim after insertion to make sure your cervix isn't hiding there? If you feel it just pull the cup down a little, angle the cup around your cervix and push back into place. You should feel the cup open fully at this stage. A few kegels help with allowing the cervix to move up a bit during this process. This was my experience when learning.

Skim/Read this http://kuradi8.livejournal.com/ It sounds like you have a combination of issues going so prepare to combine techniques to fix them.

Thank you that was very helpful. I have only used the Sckoon for one period so far so I will try it again next time being more conscious of placement and where my cervix is. I am thinking though that a slightly larger cup would be good, and maybe one that isn't bell shaped as I did have some pressure from the Sckoon on my bladder at times, but again that could just be from inexperience. Thank you all for your replies!

In addition to what the other commenters said, the Sckoon is a cup that "runs small" so even the Large is on the small side. You may prefer something wider. The large Fleur is a very popular "mommy sized" cup.

Forgive me for not remembering, have you owned a large Sckoon? While it is slightly narrower in the body due to shape, it really isn't "small." In this picture, the large Sckoon is between the Ruby and large Miacup with the lg MCUK on the far left. Ruby has slightly larger capacity, Miacup about the same, MCUK slightly less (to rim).

Hmm, thanks for the comparison pics! I have not owned one (yeah, that non-stem would be a bit of a problem for me...) but have heard lots of complaints about it running small. Did you ever have a Fleur on hand to do comparison pics with it? I'm sure somebody has but I can't think of any offhand...

I don't disagree that the Sckoon is on the smaller end of the "large" cup spectrum but because of its dimensions and capacity, I see it more in the medium category, since it is comparable to the two large cups in my other post and falls between one-size cups like the Femmecup and Ruby.

I don't have a side-by-side of the lg sckoon and lg fleur, but in this pic the large fleur is on the far left, the lg si-bell is next to the lg sckoon on the right. (This collection was a couple of years ago when I could afford to go cup-crazy! Most of these cups are no longer in my possession.)

many cups

I had the same hit or miss leakage until I learned to find my cervix and make sure my cup is positioned around it (cervix is not always in the same location, btw). But the large Sckoon is a good cup and was one of first cups that didn't leak for me as I searched for the right width and softness!
