I'm a 13-year-old virgin and I bought a Divacup (model 1). I was eager to try it, but it is quite difficult to insert. This is my third try, inserting with one leg on top of the toilet and using the origami fold, and the furthest I was able to get it was about halfway up. I feel like there's some resistance when I try to push the cup into my vaginal opening. I don't have a very heavy flow, so it could just be that I don't have enough lubrication (I rinsed the cup with water to make it easier to insert). So I was just wondering, do you have any pointers for insertion? What worked for you? Thanks so much for your advice.

I find squatting or sat on the loo easier as i can relax more, my muscles are not in use like when I'm standing. Coconut oil for natural lubrication is awesome

I second the coconut oil. I can barely get any cups in without it (I think my skin just sticks to the silicone). Plus, it's good for your skin and you can use it on your hair too if it's really dry. It's awesome that you've discovered cups this early in your life. I wish I'd known about them at 13!

This might sound too forward but if you are having trouble inserting the Diva, maybe masturbate first. I know, I know, its probably the last thing you want to do at this time but It has helped me make the Diva easier when I was your age (I'm 22 now). Also, if you are finding too much resistance, maybe you could try one tampon at the start of your cycle then switch to Diva or prime yourself with a finger. I put my Diva in while standing in the shower and I leave it out while I wash my body to give that area a break. Not trying to be pervy, just saying what has helped me. Good luck!

Re: DivaCup
Interesting advice. About using tampons at the start of the cycle, I find that when I do that, most of the fluids are absorbed in the tampon, leaving my vagina dry after I take out the tampon, which isn't ideal for cup insertion. Thanks for your suggestion though.

Re: DivaCup
I would actually caution against this if the OP already has a high cervix (which she didn't specify but is often the case with young virgins due to hormone levels). Masturbation will "tent" the vagina and cause the cervix to go even higher (as it would need to lengthen the vagina to accommodate a penis) and this might pull a cup out of reach, making it difficult to adjust/pop open and remove.

I found, for at least the first few times, that flipping it inside-out will help, it's hecka smoother like that, and you'll at least know how it should feel and what works for you. I only recommend this if you have fairly strong kegel muscles, though, as you won't have access to the stem and will have to get it far enough out with kegels to pull the rest out.
