Hey everyone -

I looked in the previous comments, but I haven't found quite the answer I'm looking for. In short, I may have cooked my diva cup a bit. Like many, I forgot I had it sanitizing on the stove and left it a little longer (ok, a lot longer) than I should have. The cup's structural integrity seems fine, though it is now a um, browner? Tanner? shade than usual.

I don't really know the risks of "cooked" silicone, and I'd hate to mess with ANY chemical balance in my ladybits, but the cup is pretty new so I'm also reluctant to just toss it.

tl;dr - my diva cup was in a pan for longer than it should have been, may have toasted it a bit. Still looks like a (browner) diva cup, but could I have damaged the silicone in a way that makes it inadvisable to use?

If there was still water in the pan, I wouldn't worry about it. Did it boil dry? That's a different matter.

Conservatively they will say get rid of it and buy a new one. But they will always say that, because silicone menstrual cups are like Crocs: so good that people don't need to replace them often enough (yes that's a real problem for the makers of Crocs).

Mine gets very, very brown. But it didn't become a problem until 9 years in, and now I'm using a solution the company does not recommend (effervescent denture cleaner) and it has effectively solved both smell and stain issues. And still seems fine. But the company would tell me to get a new one. Sometimes you have to make your own choices.

Good luck! Menstrual cups are the best.

It's probably fine. Just aesthetic/cosmetic damage.

I am one of the many who never boils my cups. Washing it with soap and hot water sanitizes just as well without the risk of damage. My rule of thumb is "as clean as cutlery." How clean does a spoon have to be before I put it in my mouth? That's clean enough for my cup as well.
