Hi all!
Thank you so much for this wonderful community! After using a softcup for 6+ months, I finally decided on a cup and bought it! I got a medium classic meluna ball stem. So far on several dry runs it has been fantastic. It has popped open each time, correctly positioned for my cervix (i hope!). No discomfort (completely forgot it was in) and easy removal. Learning how to maneuver it to pop open was interesting, but not too difficult. Using the punch down fold and lying on my back did the trick.

But here's my question. My next period will be this weekend, can't wait to try this puppy out for real! Unfortunately this weekend I am going out of town. Long days in conferences, and sharing a hotel room with friends. So I really need this cup to work! I'm hopeful, but has my experience so far been too good to be true? Should I prepare myself for a terrible time? Maybe thats a silly concern.

A much more practical question is this. So far I have had the most success lying on my back for insertion. This wont be an option with a shared hotel room. Any suggestion for the next easiest position to try? One leg on toilet? Leaning back? Forward? Suck it up and go for an awkward towel on the floor so I can lay down in privacy thing?

I will of course be bringing cloth pads for backup but I really don't want to have to go back to a softcup, I had terrible leaking. (Though still better than tampons :D) Any tips would be appreciated!

While I can't TRULY claim 'success story' until after surfing the crimson wave, I am so excited. This community is amazing, you are all amazing, and menstrual cups are amazing. Yay! Never in a million years did I think I would be excited for my period...
So.....Thanks!

I say bring it and try it. Use backup pads for sure and empty it frequently. Maybe you can find a handicapped bathroom with a sink? Or go back to your room by yourself. But, if it's too hard, be prepared with another method. The learning curve has its ups and downs... As to inserting, it should be easier when you're actually bleeding and I'd try practicing on the toilet since that might be what you have to do if you're out and about. Although I've rarely seen a hotel room without a shower and that's a good place to deal with the mess of learning how to remove a cup.

Good luck and whatever happens, keep trying!

Since you are doing so well already on dry runs, which most people find harder, I wouldn't worry. Things will be easier on your period, not harder, most likely.

One leg on toilet? Leaning back? Forward?
I can't think of any reason not to try these and see which you like best and is easiest for you personally. Also try squatting in the shower.

Good luck, sounds like you are doing great!

I was also going to suggest a shower squat, it helps contain any mess. But it is a challenge during the day needing to strip down. I wouldn't worry about your friends, they probably have dealt with an "away from home" period, and you just might educate someone else about cup use!
