I'm looking to buy a cup that will not leak on me!! I now use a Lg. Fleur on my heavy days. I'll use a Lg Ladycup on other days, or not... The fleur leaks if I don't empty it every 1-2 hours on my heavy day(s). My cervix does tend to drop down & sit in my cups, so usually the cup is only half full at best. I have a femmy cycle but it was next to impossible for me to get in & I was extremely sore & it leaked!! I have a lg. diva that I'm not sure what the problem was but it ALWAYS LEAKED! That was my 1st cup and I learned a lot but never could stop it from leaking, even inside out, which is when I got the lg. ladycup. After which I got the lg. fleur wanting larger capacity & longer wear time (which still didn't happen :-/)

Now I'm considering a Naturalmama and LuvUrBody-med.

But is wider & longer better(LUB) OR narrower & longer better(NM)?? This is in relation to the lg. fleur....

Is LONGER better??
I'm open to suggestions :-)

Well, any help greatly appreciated!!

If your cervix sits low, then longer sounds like it would not fit. Just pointing out the obvious...

LOL
Obvious, maybe....
LuvUrBody states it's for ladies with this very issue.
I'm wondering if a LONGER/WIDER cup allows the cervix 'sitting' room AND still give capacity for flow....part of the length taken up AROUND the cervix thereby not being TOO long.....

Re: LOL
I see your thinking, but basically that would depend on how much of a dangly cervix you got, meaning it drops down yes, but there must still be ample room on the sides for a cup as long as a LUB (or Diva, for that matter) to fit comfortably around it on the sides... If the Diva didn't hurt, poke out or felt like it was trying to escape, I'd give the LUB a try.... if anything,. the large size, which is the shortest of the 2. It is very wide, but not as bulbuous as the Femmycycle so it might be better... On the other hanfd, I don't see how a narrower cup would help.

Re: LOL
My logic on the narrower cup is this....since the width is smaller it won't allow the cervix as much sitting room....idk.

Looking at a comparison photo of Naturalmamma and a fleurcup I don't think that you're going to get any more capacity/time out of a naturalmamma if you have a dangly cervix.

Looking at the luv ur body--the capacity isn't that much greater than the fleurcup, and with a dangly cervix I think the large would be better than the long, medium cup--a bell shaped cup is generally better for us with dangly cervixes.

Sorry, but you may never get more wear time out of a cup. The fleurcup is the best I've found (that works with my dangly cervix, and I was emptying every 1-2 hours yesterday)--but I haven't tried the luv ur body. Maybe that's your goldilocks.

Really?? This is as good as it gets??? That makes me SAD :-(
I really don't want to accept that. I HATE emptying my cup every hour!!! Is there NO HOPE FOR ME!?!????

Well, the Natural Mamma certainly is inexpensive enough to try even if it doesn't wind up being the best cup for you. I've bought two recently from E-bay. One for myself and one for my daughter. Only $20 dollars including shipping! Great deal. The bags they came in have strawberries on them. Very cute. It works very well for me. I wound up cutting off the stem and wearing it inside out. Works great this way for me. It's the only cup I've found that I can urinate with when it's inside. Most of the others I would only feel comfortable if I'd take it out first to fully empty my bladder. I've also had good success with the large Si-bell. I have a low cervix. May be dangly at times. Don't have a very heavy flow though. Good luck to you!

I am thinking as you are thinking...I ordered the Naturalmama cup on EBAY yesterday :-) Same price, which is GREAT!! It was my BirthING day so that was my gift to myself :-D I can't wait to get it!! I'm in the US, are you?? How long did it take to get yours??
Thanks for your input!!

Can't remember exactly how long it took. Maybe a week or a week and a half. Not too bad.

Awesome! Ok Thanks!!

Like I said if the Diva fits, it doesn't hurt to try a LUB or an XL Meluna, as those are both long and wide. The femmy cycle might also work for you, it has this nifty anti-spill rim at the top that may achieve what you want while holding a significant amount of flow. But it's a very different, more bulbuous shape. You shouldn't count on the "12h." thing anyway, that's only possible for light to regular flows really. And you issue is not so much leaking as it is overflow, apparently. What you could do as well is wear a pad as back-up, especially so you can sleep through the night without making a mess. I recommend cloth pads as they are NOTHING like disposables as far as comfort customization goes.

Thanks! Way ahead of ya :) I've been using cloth backups now for about 10yrs. They are FANTASTIC!! PINKLEMONADE ON ETSY is GreaT!!
I will revisit the FemmyCycle my next cycle....
I wasn't hoping for 12hrs. but more like 3:-)

Before getting another cup, have you tried making the holes larger? A half full cup could be from a dangly cervix, but leaking can also be from clogged holes. You can punch 1 to 2 mm holes with a little arts and crafts hole punch.

To change every hour your period must be hemorrhagic- was it that way with disposables, too? Ie a soaked super plus tampon in under one hour? If your period is not like that, capacity is probably not the problem.
REGEEregee0304 on January 30th, 2014 05:37 pm (UTC)
Thanks for the suggestion:)
Maybe I'll try that.....
I've never had really heavy periods. I wore med. tampons, once in a while Super. After I got an IUD the first day (or 2) is usually heavy (well what I'd assume HEAVY is).....
elisamba on January 31st, 2014 08:59 am (UTC)
Yeah so it doesn't sound like a leak from lack of capacity. If the holes are clogged (eg from clots), the air pressure builds up inside the cup instead of gradually escaping through the holes, and the next gush of blood, having nowhere to go, opens up a little channel beside the cup.
REGEEregee0304 on January 31st, 2014 09:13 pm (UTC)
REALLY??? Interestin!!! I have noticed the holes have STUFF in them each time I empty. I always make it a point to force water through the holes to clear them just because of this. So making the holes larger helps......ok.
But what is going on when I have a CLEAR fluid leak and the cup is less than half full??
elisamba on February 1st, 2014 09:11 am (UTC)
Probably vaginal secretions. You don't see it with tampons because they absorb it, but the cup only catches flow. One reason it has more capacity than tampons.
REGEEregee0304 on February 1st, 2014 04:03 pm (UTC)
Ummmm really....I always thought my vaginal secretions were more on the thicker side. I've never had a thin/watery type vag. secretion before using a cup, & ONLY when using a cup. Any other time of the month it's thicker (I wear a pantyliner daily).
Thanks

I hope I'm not too off topic here - have you read Taking Charge of Your Fertility? I highly recommend it, it explains for example why sometimes the secretions are transparent and slippery, and sometimes opaque and creamy. Very interesting stuff! They change throughout your cycle, and technically sometimes they are "vaginal" and sometimes from your cervix, "cervical". :-) (On your period, as I understand it, any clear secretion you would see is not from your cervix.)

I love love love my diva cup. Have you tried using it again since becoming more experienced in the menstrual cup world?
REGEEregee0304 on January 31st, 2014 09:16 pm (UTC)
Hi amanda!
Actually yes I have. I have used it INSIDE OUT as a backup on lighter days. I don't use it often though I tend to stick with the Fleur & Ladycup.....
I'll have to revisit it & my femmycycle cup again!!
REGEEregee0304 on September 24th, 2014 03:59 pm (UTC)
Just to report back......

The NaturalMamma does NOT have the capacity for me either.
Maybe I'll get the LUB Lg. to try next....
