Hi, I'm a 15 year old virgin and recently got the Diva Cup size one for before child birth. I was so super excited to use it so I waited for my first period and wow! Does this thing hurt like crazy! I use the 7 fold because it's easiest for me and when I put it in it doesn't hurt but I have trouble turning it a full 360 as I cant get a grip on the cup. But I manage to turn it a little so I'm pretty sure it's in correctly. So now to my real problem. When I get up and walk around and shift when I'm sitting, it hurts! It's like a sore, pressure kind of hurt. I'm kinda of assuming it's because my vagina is just getting used to the shape and size but I'm entirely sure. When I remove it hurts a little but then there's quick relief so that doesn't bother me. It's just the constant pressure like soreness/pain that I get when I move around. If anyone could help me trouble shoot that would great! Thanks!

It sounds like you just need to get used to it. When I first started using the Nuva Ring 7 years ago, I was always aware of it and inserting it was very uncomfortable - but now it's a breeze, I don't even need to think twice about it.

The menstrual cup is the same way. My first cycle I just could NOT get it to turn. By the second, turning was super easy and so was removal. The first time I put it in, I kept panicking and thinking I would need to go to the doctor to get it removed because it was so slippery. It really just takes some getting used to.

If you're actually feeling real pain instead of just mild discomfort there could be something actually wrong and that's worth contacting your doctor about.

Where is the pain you're experiencing? Is it irritation from the stem? (I've experienced this) or just pain overall?

If your body doesn't get accustomed to the Diva after awhile, maybe a softer cup would be comfier? If the length is okay for you/not poking out, you may like the Cuplee, NaturalMamma or Si-Bell :)

Hi!

first of all the Divacup is one of the longest cups body length wise so it just may be too long for you. but for now, see how you after a couple of cycles. the pressure may be because it is too stiff (a softer cup would help) or that you need to get used to the cup (again after a couple of cycles)

IGNORE the crappy Divacup instructions that say to twist or turn the cup. you don't 'need' to do that unless it helps you create a seal/open the cup up. if you can't do it, don't worry and stop trying :)

Likewise despite what Divacup say you want the cup to sit right underneath your cervix. It's possible that the cup isn't quite around/under it or not fully opened which might cause cramps. have a feel for your cervix so you know what angle (this might be diagonally to one side) to aim the cup towards.

once you've worn the cup for several hours/overnight/a whole period and been able to remove it, you can trim the stem if you don't need it for removal and think it's poking/hurting you.

:)

Another possibility--if what the OP is feeling is more like menstrual cramps--is that the Diva itself has latched onto her cervix and the suction is causing the cramping (particularly since the suction holes are way too small). My Lily has no airholes and it does this sometimes--it might happen if the diameter is just wide enough to fit very snugly around the cervix--when I reached up to feel what was going on I could feel that my cervix was actually inside the cup a little bit. A wider, softer cup (with bigger airholes) may be the fix, if that's the case.

It may be too stiff. The Fleurcup is much softer and I find it more comfortable.

Thanks so much for all the help. I think its just that I have to get used to it because it feels a lot better today. Thanks everyone!
