I'm on my second cycle with my Meluna classic medium and after the first cycle I have sort of figured it out and all is going well. The only problem I'm having is that I can only get the cup to pop open when I insert it lying on my back. This is a bit of a problem as it means I'm having to go back and forth to my (shared) bathroom.

Does anyone have any tips as to how I can get it to pop open when I insert it in a sitting/squatting position? I've been using the 7 fold but it still takes some poking to pop it open even when I'm lying on my back.

It's a common issue during the dreaded learning curve. :o) Read the replies under the Insertion/painful or problems tag. LOTS of good advice there.

I have had a look but haven't found anything specific to my problem. I shiuld add that I have tried most folds and just want to know if anyone has overcome this particular issue.

yeps, I learnt to insert my cup lying on my back. I now sit on the edge of the bath or squat at that height standing up leaning forwards or backwards slightly. You'll get there don't worry!

as for getting it to open up have you read this post and tried all the tips in it? http://menstrual-cups.livejournal.com/2618390.html

I find doing some squats/kegels/high knees or a wiggly bum dance helps get the cup into position.

Thanks! I'm glad someone has overcome the problem! I have tried a couple of the tips from that post but not all so thanks.

Did you find before that the folds didn't unfold at all? I'm finding that when I insert it whilst sitting that the fold doesnt really budge at all, just stays compressed. Is that what you found as well?

Whether you can only insert lying down or swinging upside down from a tree doesn't really matter. ;o) The advice is how to get it to open up when you're sitting, standing or squatting in a bathroom.

I should have clarified that what I mean by 'inserting' means inserting it successfully with it popping open and going into the right position. Presumably my body position does have a bearing on this success as I have not once been able to get it to unfold at all whilst sitting/standing/squatting.

Try another fold. labia or half diaomond are fool proof for me, sitting on the toilet with your knees splayed wide and most importantly relaxing helps a lot too.

Thanks, the labia fold didn't seem to work too well and the diamond seems very wide? I found it difficult to even hold it while I inserted it, any tips?

The labia fold I sort of roll between my fingers like a cigarette until it looks pretty much just like a tampon, and insert the folded part facing down. The thing about those 2 folds is that the first step to them is to bring the rim down towards the base, that way when you insert them you can use your finger to poke at that first folded bit and so it automatically unfolds. The HALF diamond is a diamond folded in half, so that the insertion point is actually just a small or even smaller than a triangle fold, also inserted facing down. Mind you, these are folds I use with the softest cups (Cuplee, Meluna soft), which I need to manually help unfold anyway. As far as holding idk, I just pinch them hard between my thumb and the side of my index (not just the tip), press them against my vulva then move my fingers as I push. It may also help to insert at an angle, in a zig-zag motion, and sort of pull your flaps out of the way with your free hand, one side then the other.

soft? classic? sport?
Ok, I have a few Meluna, love some, hate one. I am unable to open a soft, period. I am not going to take hours trying, so sadly I can't use it. I have a classic and sport too. The sport is my favorite. I'd take any Meluna but a soft, drive me crazy. If you want like much easier grab a large lunette
