Hi, so I bought a mooncup size B and I really want to use it.. I'm 18, virgin, had never inserted anything into my vagina prior to mooncup...
I tried fingering myself first to understand my anatomy, and I realised I couldn't even fit 2 fingers there. But I thought since something as large as a penis can fit in there a mooncup should be ok. I used the punch down fold and c fold but with no success. I tried the seven fold too but it popped out of my hands before I could do anything ><

I have been reading this place for tips and the thing is I think I couldn't even push the top into the vagina, like it's stuck at the entrance. I did pushed the skin away, sit with legs wide open, drop my jaws, breathe... But I couldn't insert it :( I used water and spit as lubricants (I honestly have no idea where to get lube in my area) and I'm on the heaviest days of my period, so there's plenty of lubrication. It's painful to try pushing it in, and I get a feeling I'm just pushing my cup against the part between my legs, not even into the vagina -.-

Can anyone help? I'm really out of ideas :(

Get comfortable with insertion before you continue. If it hurts repeatedly, then you'll start to associate pain with insertion. And the more you involuntarily clench, the harder it will be and possibly the more it will hurt.

Try something like a clean hairbrush handle or something else that looks like it might be comfortable. Using a flashlight and a hand mirror, sit on the floor with your knees up and splayed and get familiar with the parts that you can see. Try stretching you hymen.

Next time, after you go pee, insert your finger and give it a little squeeze. Once you figure out how to do that on command, try RELAXING those same muscles on command. You'll need to know how to do that for insertion and especially removal.

If you haven't already, read the Virgin's Guide to Cups at the Community FAQ.

And most of all, BE PATIENT! :o)

Hi, thanks for your reply! I actually find that the mooncup is too big to fit through me, like I can't even put 2 fingers in me and the mooncup is wider than that. I'm definitely comfortable with inserting my finger and I don't mind the pain with inserting the cup, it's just that it won't even go through.. :(

ok, don't worry you don't need to be able to get two fingers or more inside you to be able to use a cup (myself included)

The Mooncup is a pretty stiff cup so might not be helping matters but before you give up here are a few tips. Try folding the cup differently to make it smaller for insertion: the 7, triangle and punchdown/labia fold are good ones for the Mooncup. Use both hands to keep it folded until you want it to open up inside.

Try different positions to insert the cup, such as:

sitting on the edge of the bath, sitting on the toilet (leaning backwards or forwards), squatting over the toilet or just squatting (high or low), squatting in the shower/bath or leaning against shower door/wall one foot on the toilet seat/bath, lying on back on the bed, knees wide apart feet flat on the bed or knees drawn to chest. lying sideways on the bed, spoon position or one leg at 90degrees. I'm sure there are more but these are the ones I have tried!

You can make a cup easier to insert by running it under warm/hot water.

Remember that the vagina isn’t vertical, so make sure you angle the cup slanting downwards towards your tailbone/end of bottom. I repeat this to myself if I find the cup it hitting against something, take a deep relaxing breath and insert a bit further and repeat until it is mostly or fully inside. getting a mirror angled so you can see where you're aiming the cup might help too (perhaps lying on your back on the bed)

Get some water-based Lube or coconut oil and use lots of it! Put it on yourself not the cup, it makes it hard to keep the cup folded otherwise! Have a towel or toilet roll on hand to wipe your hands on if they get slippery. You can buy lubricant from chemists like Boots if you're in the UK near the condoms (look for KY jelly) or coconut oil will do if you have some of that.

The most important tip is to RELAX!! I pretend that I'm about to 'have sex'/insert something, this helps me relax and distracts me from panicking and overthinking the cup as an ‘object’! Focus on relaxing your muscles, keep your jaw slack/open as this will stop you from tensing up and take deep breaths! Sometimes bearing down a little, as in almost trying to pee / have a bowel movement helps keep my vag opening relaxed.

Insert the cup slowly, slowly, I hold the top with one hand and the bottom with the other hand so it has less chance to 'pop' open before you want it to. With the punchdown fold, I insert the smooth side upwards with the crease towards the floor, but you might find the other way better. If you’re having difficulties stop midway insertion, then holding the cup still, relax, and push slowly in the middle of a deep breath. Repeat until the cup is in fully.

about the oil

only a point about the lube, don´t use oil for this, can damage the cup, only water-base lube, in a pharmacy you can buy one.

a new softer cup can helps you, maybe the mooncup it´s too firm.
