I've been using  diva cup for 10 years, and recently bought a meluna as a back up cup.

But I'm having trouble getting it to pop open inside. The fold I use for the diva cup (similar to a punch down) just seems to get stuck and not pop out after insertion when using the meluna. So it takes me quite a while to get it open (at least 3-4 minutes, whereas the diva cup takes <30 seconds).

I'm sure I'll get better at it after a few tries, but any tips in the meantime?

Though for me, I insert with punchdown, pop open by pressing the punch down part out and wiggle it up.

you will get quicker with practice but here are a few tips:

run the cup under cold water to make it stiffer/springy to pop open quicker.

try some of the other folds as show in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ep5hh0W-nFw the half diamond, labia, origami fold etc are all good ones for soft cups.
also folding it so an airhole is in the punchdown bit.

try twisting/turning or wiggling the cup until it feels open/rounded but don't worry if you can't turn/twist it.

try letting air into the cup by pressing one side of the vaginal wall away from the cup for 10 seconds.
