I just bought a MeLuna XL and L, i'm using the L and when i put it in in a punch down fold it doesn't unfold.
Also there is a little splinter or something embedded in it and it won't go away.
Is my cup not working properly?

I don't know about th splinter thing, but getting a cup to pop open can be pretty tricky. Sometimes I have more luck than others, but usually it takes some fiddling. Have you tried another insertion method? I tried quite a few until I just settled on the c-fold. When that doesn't work, I honestly just shove it in and run my finger up to the very top and then circle around the cup a few times until it unsquishes. It's messy when my flow is heavy, but it's quicker than the alternatives IMO.

I don't know about the splinter thing, but I have melunas (regular, not soft or anything) and they're pretty tough to unfold. When I punch down fold in my melunas it has to be extremely loose to unfold later - just small enough to go in, rather than as small as it will go. Even then I sometimes have to help it unfold once it's in, by using a finger to poke at the fold from the other side and gradually slide it up (and thus open).

Hope this helps.

Honestly the puch down fold just doesn't work all that well for everyone or every cup. Try other folds, I recommend half diamond, labia & origami, all inserted with the folded part facing down.
And check this post for more tips : http://menstrual-cups.livejournal.com/2618390.html

Also, you need to relax and allow air inside to reach the top of the cup so it can unfold. vaginas have natural tendncy to collapse onto themselves, that's why cups don't magically slap them right open (ouch!), lol.

The anti-suction holes on Melunas are pretty small so you have to go slowly, be patient and coax air into the cup to make it unfold. My guess is that you're rushing the process.

Some people have had better luck after enlarging the holes on cups that have small holes. Something like a punch seems to work better than drill bits or scissors that might leave ragged edges. The holes on the cup with the biggest holes are 2mm.

I use a meluna classic xl and I always use the c fold reversed with an air hole in the crease. I also insert firmly but slowly, get in as far as I can and let it open (I find taking my fingers away slowly and sometimes kegeling helps to get the air in - you should definitely hear the air get sucked in) then push it up towards my cervix once open. That's the only method I've ever used with my meluna and it works nine times out of ten for me! Not sure what you mean about the splinter thingy though?

Okay I have tried some of the tips I've gotten on here and now when I take out my cup it is very uncomfortable and i feel like in scraping inside of me when i take it out.
Also I keep having trouble finding the cup when i am trying to take it out.
Is there a cup that is small in width, but long to hold enough fluid?

Are you on your period ? because it's usually much more comfortable then, and if not you may need to use a little lube to avoid that feeling. There are a few, but it's tough to advise since we don't know (yet) what you are looking for and what would fit your anatomy : http://sizecharts.livejournal.com/
