Hi Community!

Thanks to your lovely support and suggestions, I went and bought myself a nice soft Meluna in medium to replace my size 1 Diva. For the record, it's completely fabulous when it's actually inserted... inserting is a whoooole other ballgame though.

My go to fold with the Diva used to be the punch-down fold, but no matter what I try with the Meluna I just can't get it to pop open! I managed to get it to open easily using the C-fold, but not without some groaning and complaining from my lady bits. Miss JayJay doesn't like such a wide fold at all!

So back to the question - what folds open the easiest? Out of those, which have a nice little point like the punch-down? Any tips?

Funny thing: I had the exact same difficulty with my Meluna and just figured out a solution three days ago. XD
I use the triangle fold now: description and picture. Easy to pop open and it has that little point.

Hey, whaddya know? The triangle fold DID work! It had that same nice little point, though it did take a bit of coaxing to get it to open - I'm not used to having it completely inserted before opening! Ahh... it's great to have a working cup again ♥

half diamond fold and triangle fold have nice little points of insertion. I have not used a meluna so I donno what actually works on that shape and material but you can try these two.

I'll have to try the half diamond fold! I like the tiny point you can get with it, but it's so origami'd I think it might have trouble popping open still. I'll just have to try it and see!

I had that problem when I started with my medium Meluna so I used the punch down fold. After a few months, the punch down wouldn't pop back open so I gradually moved to the C and haven't had much of a problem with any pain in that region since. Good luck!

Thanks! I'll have to revisit the C fold on a less tender day then - hopefully I'll have the same luck you did! I may even try the punch-down again, seeing as how it WAS my favorite go-to fold :)

Labia fold facing down + cold water, one hole in the center of the fold, with the Meluna, half diamond mostly with V-shaped cups (Cuplee for me, it has a narrow point). It's proved completely foolproof for me, I should post about it. You also need a relaxed position where Miss JayJay can be relaxed and roomy : sitting on the toilet or lying down are good examples, in my experience. If you don't know these folds, Lunette has very detailed videos on youtube.

Well, I ended up trying the cold water trick I keep hearing good things about. I got all relaxed in my usual position on the toilet but... as soon as my cold hands/cup made contact my nether regions tensed right back up, hahaha! It took 5 minutes before it would trust me again! :P

Lol. Remember to bear down, that helps me relax! :)

And to answer yout other comment, the half diamond fold facing down is magical because you can reach the first bit that you folded just by poking a finger underneath the cup, so it unfolds. in one swift move.

You know, that makes sense! I kinda just figured more folds = harder to open. Fold facing down is also something I've yet to try. You make it sound so easy though, I've got to try that fold next!

The labia fold has more folds than the punch down, and opens easier. The folded part is springy, so it 'wants' to unfold, and more folded parts = more spring, so to speak.

Haha, no way! That's just the opposite of what I thought! Well no wonder the punch down was so resistant to open. Thanks for the tip!

HOLY BANANAS you were right! That fold IS magical! It just popped open like it was nothing! The half diamond shape was wide at the bottom for me, so a little painful but... I think that's something my body will just have to get used to. This method is wonderful ♥
juliiie87juliiie87 on April 24th, 2013 09:40 am (UTC)
Yay, I'm glad you appreciate my secret method hehe! :)

I find the labia fits the shape of the meluna best, if you can hold it super tight it looks like a big tampon and the same thing goes with the first folded bit at the bottom.

I'll have to try the labia fold next then! Although I'm kinda hooked on your magical half diamond! Thanks for your fantastic advice as always :>

I use the diamond fold with my Meluna, with the folded side pointing to the back. I find I can just tuck it in around my cervix, which pretty much guarantees it's opened properly. It's pretty skinny at the point, so it might work better for you than the C fold.
tauqtauq on April 23rd, 2013 06:41 pm (UTC)
It already sounds like it would work better than the C! I don't know if I would be skilled enough yet to tuck it around my cervix though haha
Eireinneireinn on April 23rd, 2013 11:04 pm (UTC)
I have a super-low cervix, so I basically can't help but tuck it in there. If yours is higher, that might be more challenging! :)

I think the fold I use is the "7 fold" where you fold one side over and it looks kind of like a 7. It goes in fairly easy, though I do usually swirl my finger around it just to make sure.
tauqtauq on April 23rd, 2013 06:47 pm (UTC)
I also do the finger swirl to make sure it's popped open. This soft cup is just so... squishy! It's hard to tell sometimes if it opened or not for me lol
trejoytrejoy on April 23rd, 2013 01:58 pm (UTC)
Like the others said, having the folded side facing down/back should help.
I used the 7 fold with my soft MeLuna.
tauqtauq on April 23rd, 2013 06:48 pm (UTC)
I'll have to try it with the fold facing down then! I usually have fold up with the punch-down fold, but that was back when I had a firm cup that popped open like it was nothing. Appreciate the advice from another Meluna soft user!
Jennifer Monoteasy2begreen on April 23rd, 2013 10:23 pm (UTC)
I usually use the origami fold with my soft cups. I make sure one of the holes is in the middle of my first fold so that air can get into it easily once it's inside. It's a little wider than the punchdown, but narrower at the tip than the C-fold.
tauqtauq on April 24th, 2013 05:16 am (UTC)
I haven't tried the origami fold yet, but I DID try keeping a hole in the middle - worked great! I never really thought about hole position before, haha!
