I excitedly bought my first menstrual cup (a Diva size 1) last month at the beginning of my period. I read and reread the instructions, read tips on this forum, and even watched youtube videos about properly inserting the Diva Cup. I attempt putting it in several times a day throughout the duration of my period. I've tried sitting, squatting, and standing. I've tried putting it in on the toilet and in the shower. I've tried all of the folding techniques I can find. Even with all of that, I have not been able to even insert the Diva Cup and this is my second cycle since buying it. No matter what I try, whenever the cup pops open, part of the cup and all of the stem hangs outside of me. I've even tried guiding it or kegaling it in after it pops open, but it doesn't move. I haven't even been able to leave it in to see if it works or not because it's so low. I just don't understand what I could be doing wrong.

I know that my cervix is low during my period, but I noticed the diva cup is no longer than a tampon and I've never had problems with wearing a tampon. I am very familiar with finding my cervix because I use the fertility awareness method from Taking Charge of Your Fertility as birth control. I am 26, sexually active, but no children, so the Diva size 1 should work for me, right? I'm just frustrated because I have read all of the rave reviews of using these and so many people saying they got it in the first time, but I don't want to just give up and continue using tampons and pads.

sounds like its not getting past your pubic bone.... I know you have tried lots of positions but have seen other posts here where people mention lying down on the bed - worth a try. And also whatever fold you are using, put the folded part facing towards the floor, which will make it pop open into the largest space (I think lying down on the bed helps you to relax and create the largest space).

Hope this helps and that other experienced cuppers can offer some suggestions for you too.

The Diva is the longest of all the cups and is too long for many (including me.)

Try flipping the Diva inside out to shorten it and see if it fits you better that way.

I've wondered about flipping it inside out, but then I worry about not being able to remove it without the stem...especially since I haven't ever had to properly remove it.

How easily can you reach your cervix?

If it hangs out of you now, it should stay within easy reach even when flipped inside out.

Even if the Divacup doesn't work for you, that's no reason to give up. Pretty much all the other brands are shorter! Your cup success does not depend on this one cup working for you.

The truth of the matter is, vaginas come in different lengths. Some people can easily reach their cervix, some simply can't. The Divacup just happens to be one of the top longest cup on the market. So whatever the company may say, it simply doesn't fit everyone.

Cups usually should and will sit (o) around your cervix, again, despite what the instructions may say (IGNORE the instructions btw, is something you'll often read on this community). Fortunately, just like vaginas, cups come in different lengths too. See here : http://sizecharts.livejournal.com/ But for now, try flipping it inside out. It can't go further than your cervix anyway.

I had to cut the stem off entirely and flip the booger inside-out to make it *not* stick out at least a tad. :) You're not alone with that particular cup being kind of a pain to position.

Popping it out without a stem was more easily done for my by getting my thumb under it on one side and my finger under it (between my vaginal wall and the cup) with the other, then squeezing until I could tell the inside walls of the cup were touching. That allowed just enough room/air in there to wiggle it down, and then I could refold it half way to get it the rest of the way out. I *never* lost it because I cut the stem off since it was always right inside my vagina- impossible to miss. I *did* occasionally slop it before I meant to, but even that only meant a little extra wiping since I had the best luck sitting on the toilet with my right foot braced on the wall (the left just didn't work as well, I suspect b/c of my low back and hip injury).

Hope something helps! And, if all else fails, I had a great ordering/shipping experience with Fleurcup last week and it's working better for me than the Diva did. The small Fleurcup w/ bag is about $25 shipped, so even if you resell the Diva, trying a new one is lower risk financially.
