Hello - let me first say that this community is great - I learned so much from previous posts when I first bought my Diva, and I can honestly say that I would not have been successful figuring it out had I not found this community. Haven't been on here in awhile, so this question may have been posted before, but I really don't want to go through all the posts trying to find a similar issue to mine, so here is the issue:

I'm 28, no kids and I have been using my small Diva for about five years, and I love it most of the time. I love that I can forget that I'm on my period, and generally have no issues. However, in the last two years or so, every few months, sometimes more frequently, I get severe cramping - to the point of having to leave work or stop what I'm doing - not an option most of the time. If I lay down for an hour or two or take out my Diva, the cramping goes away, but if I don't do either/both of those things it will last all day. This only happens on the first day of my period, past that it's not a problem at all. The first day tends to be my heaviest, probably medium heavy on a heavier cycle, emptying every 3-4 hours at the longest, sometimes sooner. My cervix is also lowest on the first day or two, then moves up, but my Diva fits regardless, so I don't think my cervix would be considered low, just low for me. This leads me to believe the issue is not length of the cup, but width? The cramping feels like my cervix is being squeezed, but extends through my abdomen as it gets worse. Again, as soon as I remove the cup the pain is greatly decreased, so I think if I get a wider cup it might fix the problem.

The only way I can use my cup and not have it leak is if it is cupping my cervix, and I think maybe on heavier cycles/first day of my cycle my cervix is just too tender to have anything tight against it? The cramping comes on suddenly, but not immediately upon insertion. I can be fine for a couple hours, and then suddenly I am almost doubled over, clammy, pale, etc. Many times the immediate need to have a bowel movement accompanies (usually more loose than normal) but not always, and I know that's the cause of the cramping so I'm rather confused as to what the real cause is. On lighter cycles it almost never happens so I think the weight of a fuller cup is part of the problem, as some cycles I only have medium flow the first day and I don't cramp, but I don't know beforehand if it will be a heavier or lighter cycle so I never know when it will be a problem. Right now I'm using organic tampons the first day just so I don't have to deal with it, but I would rather find a solution and not have to use those anymore.

Should I just size up to the large Diva since I know the small works for me generally? It would give me the width I think I might need, or I am open to using something different, I just don't have any experience with them and don't want to spend tons of money trying out different options as my budget is pretty tight. From the charts, I'm thinking the large lunette or large fleurcup may work, as they have large capacities but but are wider and shorter, in case length is actually part of my problem.

Sorry for the super long post, and thanks in advance for any advice!

I'm sorry I don't have any advice, but I will say that my Diva causes me cramping as well. I have the larger one as I'm 35 with 2 kids. It seems for me it just depends on placement and if I adjust I can sometimes solve the issue. However, it is noticeable and often enough that I keep thinking about (but not yet doing) buying a different brand. I use cloth pads for my light days and the cup for heavy, so it's possible that the combo is the problem. I've sometimes wondered if going smaller would help me, so id be curious to hear what happens if you change sizes. My apologies for not offering much help, but I hope a little commiseration isn't too bad ?

commiseration is always welcome :)

I had cramps with the small lunette. I've found my large fleurcup has a wide top and doesn't squash my cervix. Don't know whether than helps :)

I will look into the si-bell - haven't looked at that one yet. I've tried flipping inside out but found it hard to deal with. I prob need to play around with that a little more to see if that would be an easy fix. It seems to hold less when inside out, though that may just be my perception.

Sounds somewhat similar. I hope you figure things out and it gets better. Thanks for the feedback.
