Hello, I've been lurking for the past week or so reading past posts and I had a question regarding sizing and brands as I'm still having difficult actually biting the bullet.

I'm 29 years old who's a dancer (though less regularly these days at around 1-3 hours a week vs. 6-9 hours). Additionally I'm a virgin so I have no children. I attempted to measure the location of my cervix during my first few days of menstruation and got around 50mm, though I'm unsure if I measured it correctly. My period is usually around 7 days in length with the first 2-3 days being heavy (2 super absorbent tampons which sometimes includes one regular tampon, the 3-4th being normal flow (3-4 regular tampons), and the 5-7th being light/spotting (usually barely enough to fill even half of a light tampon).

I was wondering if you could advise me regarding a general size/brand to purchase that would be a good fit (yes I know that it does vary from person to person). I read various sizing guides, but was unsure as I have what I believe to be a heavier flow (and I know it's all relative), and am unsure about how high my cervix is during menstruation (well if I measured it correctly) as I know that the length is important as well a capacity. I probably want something not too hard either. I was thinking about getting a Lunette size 1, but am nervous given my flow. I'd rather start off with a cup that has enough capacity for my heavier days. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and support in this endeavor.

hee, i used to think my flow was a bit heavy but now i know it's light :D i just didn't realize that when i needed to change pads more often, it's because i only used regular ones, even overnight. the night/heavy flow pads were just too huge, lol.
which cup did you choose? :)

I placed an order for a large Fleurcup. It's on its way. Hopefully it'll come soon as I'm currently "on the rag." I am a little nervous about stiffness, but I won't know until I try right?

here's a post about soft cups:) http://menstrual-cups.livejournal.com/2618390.html
although for some reason there are far less questions like that about the fleurcup than about other cups..maybe it's the placement of the holes, idk.

if you don't like the stiffness of the cup, it's muuuch better if it's too soft rather than too stiff. a cup that is too stiff is uncomfortable or even impossible to wear. a cup that is too soft is just a bit more difficult to insert (but a stiff cup is likely to be easier but more uncomfortable to insert)

i've heard the shipping takes about a week. if you ordered when you said you'd "pulled the trigger", you'll get it very soon i suppose:)

Thanks for the tips. Seriously hoping that it's not too stiff as I don't want to have to buy another one, though I know it is a trial-and-error kind of thing. It just came in and I'm debating on if I want to do a dry run just to practice putting it in and taking it out. I won't get my period for another 2-3 weeks or so. Thoughts?

check for your cervix position. ovulation is a good time for dry runs as your body is hoping for sex and conception, so there's a lot of natural lubrication..but your cervix may be higher, and then removal can be difficult, stressful and not realistic compared to your low cervix on your period.
just don't leave it in for too long (again, it might climb higher now) but don't reinsert too many times in a row either. and remember that it's generally easier when you're actually on your period.

also, are you able to get an 'object' inside? that was my main issue in the beginning. it was so different from inserting my fingers that at first i needed to be in a position in which i could see my ladybits, lol.

Thanks for the additional tips. I might just wait but I don't my initial attempts at insertion or removal to be while I'm on my period. Yeah HP!
