Hi everyone!

I was wondering how to dispose of a cup at the end of its life, particularly a MeLuna cup? Do I throw it into the trash, or...? Thanks in advance for the help!

I threw away my one cup that's reached the end of its life. I don't think they're recyclable or anything... Or are you asking for, like, biohazard reasons? If that's the case, I'm sure if you wash off any blood before throwing it out it should be fine.

My MeLuna is still going strong, but when the time comes? I'm planning to spray-paint it with metallic sparkles and turn it into a Christmas tree ornament! "Silver bells / Silver bells / It's Christmastime in the city..."

This isn't for Meluna specifically but on Lunette's site for their cups they recommend burning the cup, which will create a white powder ash called silicon dioxide. If nothing else I suppose that reduces the room it takes up in a landfill.

ty for the info! MeLuna's made from TPE, though, so I don't know if that would work S:

I heard that silicon degrades naturally, though, so perhaps burning helps speed up that process.

According to the Divacup website:

Silicone is not recyclable, but, since it starts out as sand, it degrades over time depending on the temperature, anaerobic activity and moisture in the landfill. This applies to all products made from silicone, like baby bottle nipples and toys. To dispose of your DivaCup, thoroughly wash the cup, cut it up into smaller pieces, and dispose in the trash.

so for silicone cups so you could burn it or cut it up...

you could email Meluna and see what they suggest? I'm sure there are others to whom meluna disposal would be helpful! :)perhaps they'll send you a sample cup in return for your old one?! :)

... And perhaps they have a way to recycle TPE ?

It didn't even occur to me to e-mail and ask! Thanks! I will do that. :) And hehe, a sample would be nice ;p (Though I already bought a new one >p)
