Hi everyone. This is my fourth period using my cup and usually I don't have any problems, but today it's just not working for me. I started my period this morning so I put my cup in, but every time I go to the bathroom and wipe, I notice that it's leaking (not just a little, it's a significant amount of blood). I took it out and put it back in, but it was still leaking. And now I just tried a third time and hopefully this time it works.

I'm pretty sure that it popped open and that there is suction, so I'm not sure why it would be leaking. Can anyone offer any advice? Thank you so much.

It could be many things:

1. You did not "wipe" inside before inserting it. Not an issue if you put it in before your cycle started, but significant if you're in the heaviest days.

2. Positioning. I've read a lot that the DivaCup is supposed to be directly under your cervix to capture the blood. If it is not then that is most likely why you're experiencing leaking. Do you have a tilted cervix? Or have you just had a BM and your organs have not all readjusted?

3. Fit. The DivaCup may just be a bad fit for you.

Yes, it could be a lot of things.

Every once in a while we all have a period during which our cup just refuses to cooperate. Maybe you're having one. Infuriating, isn't it?

Another possibility is that your vag is shorter this time around. If you think your Diva is to long for you on any particular day, try flipping it inside out to shorten it.

I sort of had this situation a couple of times and the problem was that my cup was opening to the SIDE of my cervix. My cervix isn't perfectly centered and doesn't point straight down. Now I make sure every time I put in the cup that the cup isn't sitting NEXT to my cervix. I check by swirling/stirring/sweeping my index finger around the cup and making sure I can't touch the tip of my cervix.
