This is my third cycle with my Medium Meluna Classic. The first two cycles went great. Now the cup keeps leaking. It definitely isn't filling up.. when  I take it out there is very  little in the cup. And I'm still having problems with it popping open. I have to put it in then manually open it and unfold it.

When I put it in I make sure I can't feel my cervix outside the cup.. so I don't get why it's leaking. I'm swimming with friends later and I'm scared that I can't trust the cup :(

I've been wearing a pad with the cup just in case it leaks.. and the fluid on the pad and when I wipe is a lot darker then I'm used to when using pads. Any ideas why this is..?

I'm kind of considering a different cup that would pop open easier. I like the meluna ball stem.. and Meluna in general.. but I hear they aren't the best as far as popping open. So what is a good cup that opens easily and possibly has bigger air holes? Thanks!

Instead of buying another cup with bigger holes, what if you enlarged the holes on the cup that you have?

I was thinking about that.. but I don't know how.. I don't have a hole punch or anything.

Is there something else I can use and how big should I make them?

Some have used small scissors, small drill bits, even body piercing punches. Since your MeLuna is is made of TPE, which might not be as "stretchy" as silicone, then be careful not to start a tear.

When a good (soft) cup goes bad, it's been my personnal experience, it's usually the user's fault (overflow or forgot to check for a seal). Or it's because your body/flow has changed, if only for this period. Only you can tell which one it is for sure.

I don't think there's anything unusual with having to manually unfold it or at least give it a poke or two. What I find causes less hassle is using folds that are already eager to pop open : with my medium meluna soft, that's labia fold + run the cup under cold water prior + place one hole at the center of the fold + face the fold towards the floor. With a different cup, I've had consistent success with the half diamond fold, but that's a bit hard to make on such a small cup. Because these folds start by pulling the rim downwards, they end up scooping the soft vaginal wall next to your anus and unfold with a gentle push inwards, ime. If not, make sure you're fully relaxed & lubricated, bear down even, and push the vaginal wall away to create an air channel.

A different cup... it really depends what you are looking for. Small Fleurcup looks fairly similar to a medium Meluna, and I haven't heard much complaints about it. Small Lunette has similar dimensions and a different shape, it's also slightly firmer. I <3 my Cuplee, but it's bigger. Have a look at the charts... http://sizecharts.livejournal.com/

Now to be more useful to your current issues... can you trust your cup ?? Definitely, if your cervix isn't peaking outside the rim in an unusual spot and the cup is fully rounded. Just be extra sure to check for that and empty frequently enough so it won't overflow, keeping in mind that your cervix may be stealing some capacity.

If your discharge is just a little bit soon after you reinserted, it might be what we call residual slobber : blood that had already made its way lower in your vagina that the cup couldn't catch. This shouldn't go further than the the bottom of your panties or swim suit.

I had the same thing happen this weekend. The first 5 days of my period were fine, then the last two I had nothing but leakage, no matter what I did. It sometimes just happens.

I've been having similar problems with my medium Meluna classic. |:

I think the blood is darker because the cup could be slowing the flow, so by the time it comes out it is darker, it's the same for me. Except when I am very heavy, it comes fast and fresh - then it's very bright.
