Hey everyone,

I got some samples of Ruby Cup (3 to be exact), their first models and their final model.  But I've only bothered to post pictures of their final model, since the other two are just like this one, only a solid stem instead of a hollow one.  With the last sample, they let me have the box, the instruction and the pouch!

I should have asked a lot sooner if it was ok to share these yet!  lol.  Maxie, the owner, said she meant to email me a while back about it.  Also that their website http://ruby-cup.com/  should be up and running for sales by next week!  :D

But on picture sharing-- better late than never, right?  At first they asked me not to share, because they wanted to wait until they had their final model. But I asked yesterday if I could share the pics yet and they said yes.

I'm also waiting for word to share pictures of the sample I got of yet ANOTHER new brand, but sadly....   I'm not allowed to say which one, or from what country yet.  :)  As soon as I get permission, I will.

As for the Ruy Cup--  LOVE IT!  It has great capacity.  Not too firm, but not too soft.  Easy to grab.  Grips are more like ripples rather than rings, really smooth, but defined.  Clear cup with a matte finish.  Hollow stem.  Tiny grip treads at the base, should be visible in the photos.  Holds up to my flow great, and the body of the cup is not too long.

For my regular cup I use a small Lunette, but I like this one for really heavy days and when I'm out of the house all day.

Most of these pictures are mine, but I'm also including the new pictures Maxie sent me, they are nice!  Have fun looking, everyone :)

More on Ruby Cup-- I just added 2 new photos, showing the older experimental models vs. the new final model.  Also here is the measurements/capacity info on the final model:

Rim circumference – 5.5 inches
Rim diameter – 1 ¾ inches
Body length – 2 inches
Stem length – 3/4 inches
Overall length – 2 ¾ inches
Capacity: 20ml to the holes
Just over 30ml to the rim

that is a nice cleanly designed cup! I like the look of the stem - it kinda reminds me of an octopus! but it looks like it would be fantastic for gripping :)

for some reason I expected it to be ruby coloured lol - that's just the first thing that went through my mind when I saw the name!! lol

the packaging looks nice and environmentally friendly. what do you think about the price of it?
melissa569melissa569 on June 24th, 2012 04:15 am (UTC)
I believe their prices are listed in Kenyan Shillings? If so, that would be (converted to U.S. dollars):

One cup - $33.36

Sister Pack (2 cups) - $47.68

I think those prices are ok, by the average cup price, but especially the sister pack its a great deal!

I think a ruby-colored cup would be adorable too, lol.

what about the dimensions?
melissa569melissa569 on June 24th, 2012 08:26 pm (UTC)
I will try to get some dimensions up as soon as I can :) Not sure if their website has any yet, I haven't checked.
Serpent: neutralserpent_849 on June 24th, 2012 08:31 pm (UTC)
it doesn't, so it would be great if you can measure it:)))
melissa569melissa569 on June 26th, 2012 07:58 am (UTC)
Ok there you go, measurements done! And 2 new photos as well, comparing the old model to the new model :)

Ruby-cup dimensions
All we know so far it's that it has a capacity of 34ml and the total length is 68mm. More details coming soon...

Actually a ruby color is not a bad idea!

So at one point they designed it with a solid stem and then switched to hollow? I would really like some insight into why they made this decision since it was, in my opinion, the WRONG one. I need a stem to be flexible and comfortable and hollow stems are neither. Bad design choice!
nocebo_domingonocebo_domingo on June 24th, 2012 03:33 pm (UTC)
Ok, it does look bendy. But still harder to clean.
melissa569melissa569 on June 24th, 2012 08:34 pm (UTC)
With how thick it is, I recall that their first solid stem was actually far more rigid. Also wider at the end, and thinner near the base of the cup. The hollow stem is more flexible. True, hollow stems might need cleaning but it might be harder to trim a stem as thick as their solid one.

Its one thing to make a flat stem solid. Or a really thin cord steam. But the cord stems can be very hard to grab being so thin, they help very little. And most flat-tab patents are already owned.

Both Yuuki and Ruby Cup once had solid round stems and changed it... So there must be something about it. Hmmmmm....

Yes solid round stem can be a bit too stiff and uncomfortable. Yuuki told me that's why they changed it.

Thanks for sharing the information and the pictures :)

The only thing I don't like about it is that the suction holes are a little lower than I personally like.
melissa569melissa569 on June 25th, 2012 01:17 am (UTC)
They are kind of low, yeah. But it still has pretty good capacity. I kind of have a medium-heavy flow, like I used to fill up a super tampon in about 3 hours on a heavy day. But this one does a pretty good job.

Good to know! :)

So that's 44x51 mm + nearly 20 mm stem, about 70 mm total like most longer cups. (sorry I had to write down the conversion, those 3/4 make me dizzy ! ;))

Good, middle of the road size and capacity. It should fit most people, if needed with the stem off or inside out, which is good for its purpose. Wait, can you turn it inside out ?? Roughly how firm is it compared to your collection ? Thank you for your work ! :)
melissa569melissa569 on June 26th, 2012 03:39 pm (UTC)
Its a little firmer than most cups, but still not as stiff as a large Lunette. I just tried to turn it inside out, and I was successful :)

Thank you for the conversions :)

Ruby-cup is ready
Hey Melissa, thanks for the post! my sample is lost somewhere in the mail, I should get the new one soon. Im looking forward to try it. The price is official now, it's 27.95€ or 39.95€ for 2 cups. They offer Free shipping and parcel will leave from the UK thru Royal Mail (not from Kenya).

Im proud to annonce that very soon the Ruby cup will be available on my store along with all the others. The extra money made by selling it to that price will be reinjected in their project and make Ruby cup available to the countries in need.

I will keep you posted :)
