Is your cup really supposed to be round or almost round once fully open inside? I can't seem to make mine more than a slender oval even when it's expanded. I ran my finger around the rim, which is really challenging with the cup taking up so much space, and it seems open. I even heard the air rush in. It's my day off and I'm sort of afraid to leave the house for fear of not having a good seal and leaking everywhere.

I don't know if I should continue trying, but I'm irritating the crap out of my ladies parts as is. It's a bit discouraging =(.

When I take my cup out it's sort of squised into an oval shape, so I presume that's the shape my insides need it to be. I doubt the vaginal canal is perfectly round!

edit: this is a pic of my cup when its just come out, all squished. It's next to a perfectly round cup that hadn't been used recently, just for a shape comparison.

Thanks that makes sense, that's sort of how mine looked like except a bit more squished.

I think less might be more. I'm playing with it too much out of paranoia. I hear so much about soft cups not popping open that I think I might be creating a problem that doesn't exist.

Angry vaginal muscles of steel...I like it! Can we get t-shirts =p.

I like that I can't feel the soft, so I definitely think I'll try pulling it down. I'm glad I didn't choose a longer cup or that wouldn't even be possible. The labia fold seems to work the best with the MeLuna small soft for me. The other folds either won't go in, or won't unfold once they are in at all like the punch down.

So you do insert and pull down, or do you twist first? What are all your steps...I guess is what I'm asking.

Hmmm...I failed! It was a leaking tragedy. I can't get a full twist either. I'm not sure how these women are able to do all these finger acrobatics in there.

I feel like having a shorter vagina makes it worse cause too much fiddling and it's out, so then I have to redo it. This is so hard.

Ragequit =). I can see that...those tampons look really good right now.

Basically you want to get the rim past your pubic bone, but there's no need to put it as far as you can either ! Just aim to your cervix and gently kegel / nudge it in place... or let it find its way up. As long as it's pretty much expanded, you shouldn't fiddle or twist or anything. Wear a liner the first few times for safety.

I'm still in the learning curve too, but I find the easiest way to relax and have the cup to pop open immediately is to lie on my back. It's the lazy approach, but it totally works for me ! And it feels good to make it work.

Thank you so much for answering my million questions. I have to be getting a bit annoying.

I think I'm starting to find something that works for me. I'm going with inserting it as shallow as I can and letting it open at the entrance. That way if I have to help it open it's not difficult to do and then wiggling it all the way to the top, which isn't very far. My vagina is pretty my the length of the cup.

The kegels help too!

Quit messin' with it! ;o)

Either put it in and leave it alone or take it out and use something else until your parts feel better.

I wanted to triumph! But yeah I'll probably have to wear something else to work and skate until I get the hang of this.

You WILL triumph! You're just in the dreaded learning curve.
Don't worry. You'll get through it in a jiffy. :o)

As long as the cup is touching the vagina walls all the way round you should be good.
If you have problems with the cup unfolding, slide your finger in along side the fold & push your vagina wall away from the cup... it should a) give the cup room to unfold & b) allow air to pass the rim so the cup can "inflate".
I understand your issues with room... some days it feels like I have no room inside at all, others I don't have any issues. I mostly have trouble sliding my finger around the front where the pubic bone is.
I don't try and spin/twist my cup at all.

Thanks I was really caught up on that twisting bit.

i collected various tips for popping open here: http://menstrual-cups.livejournal.com/2618390.html

Thanks I definitely could have saved myself some hardship if I read that first! I figured out that I have let my cup open all the way before I move up.

I'm using cold water now, but I might try the nine fold. It looks like a good way to make it smaller without really folding it down or in too much.

fortunately not:D as my cervix is so low, sometimes part of the rim will be outside my body when it opens...i sort of refold it just enough to insert that part. Melissa has also mentioned not bothering to refold properly if the cup pops open during insertion.
