Is it bad to pull by the stem?

New cup user here! I'm using both fleurcup sizes and I was wondering if it's bad to pull on them by the stem? The cups ride so high and my fingers are so short that I can't comfortably reach the base after bearing down. I basically have to bear down to even reach the stem! What I do after grabbing hold of the stem is to try to wiggle it down a little bit with each push until I can just about pinch the base with my thumb and index finger.

I worry that pulling the stem will weaken it and cause it to rip eventually but I just don't see how I can get to the base of my cup otherwise. Any tips?
