My Cup Just Arrived!

I bought my first cup about a week ago and it came today. I am so excited. I bought the Diva Cup to start off with.

I inserted it just to test out eventhough I'm not menstruating right now. I know, I know...bad, but it was only for a minute and I washed it afterward. It was pretty awkward and uncomfortable, though I know that during my period there will be more 'lubricant' so to speak.

I have a few questions for experienced cup users.

1. The diagram in the instructions shows it sitting an inch or more from the cervix, buy my vagina isn't that long. If I insert it so that the stem is in like they say to (which makes sense) it won't be that far from my cervix. Does that really matter?

2. Do you really have to spin the thing? That part felt just unnecessary because I could tell it had opened. I actually had to reach up and break the seal in order to rotate it.
