Menstrual Cup & IUD String Length

Hello all! First of all, I want to apologize if this has been posted before. I browsed through the community and did not see anything similar, but it's likely I might have missed it.

I received my Lunette in the mail today and the directions suggested I have my IUD strings trimmed as short as possible before using the cup. I have medium-longish strings that are usually curled around my cervix; should I really trim them?

I was just curious - for other MC users out there who also have an IUD, do you have shortly trimmed strings? Do you feel this is a necessity? I'm terrified of expulsion, but also don't want to go to the doctor's to get them trimmed if I don't have to.
