About Meluna and the VAT for US customers

Hi, I have a question for those of you living in the US, who have purchased directly from Meluna before: did they charge you VAT? I was placing an order a couple of days ago, and noticed towards the end that the VAT was not taken off from my total. I emailed Meluna to ask about that, but so far I have not yet receive an answer.

I wanted to order directly from Meluna, because they tend to include free samples, but now I'm thinking that it might come out cheaper to just buy with a co-op.
