Medium MeLuna - Am I doing it wrong???

Okay, so I have been lurking around the community for about 6-8 months now, trying to gather information.  I used to wear tampons - and they fit comfortably.  I would go through a super tampon every 4 hours or so on heavy days.  However, after I had my 2 children I could no longer comfortably wear them.  They would not go in all the way - and quite frankly, they hurt. So I switched to pads. I have been using them now for five years and I'm tired of them.

Fast forward to a week ago. I had read that the small MeLuna's were super small so I decided to go with the medium.  I am scheduled to start my period in one week, so today I decided to give it a trial.  Needless to say, it did not go so great.

First issue I had, even though I have two children (I tried the c-fold and punch-down fold) the cup did not insert easily.  Once I did get it inserted it did not open all the way but I could not turn the cup - as there was a suction. I am not sure what the position of my cervix is when I am on my period, but today when I checked - it was about the length of my index finger up (so I guess about 3 inches).

Once the cup was in and open - it took a while - I had the same discomforts as when I used tampons. The cup did not go all the way in and the ball was sticking out of my vagina.  I am not sure what to do. At this point I feel like my vagina is raw from all the twisting and prodding I did and it still didn't help.

Just to give a little more info here:  I am 24, have 2 children, medium flow (I may even consider it lighter than medium except I do expel larger uterine lining pieces - so I'll stick with medium), and I purchased a medium MeLuna soft cup ball stem.

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
