rape survivors and cup use

Warning: if you are easily upset or offended by the issue of rape, please don't read further.

Hello everyone

I'm a long-time lurker and first-time poster, but I thought I'd jump in the deep end and ask a tricky question straight off.

I am an avid cup fan (purple LadyCup FTW) and have been telling all my friends about the benefits and virtues of cup-use. I'm super proud as I've converted three already :-)

One friend in particular is very interested in the concept of cups, but she has problems inserting anything into her vagina as a result of a traumatic rape about five years ago. She uses tampons (with a lot of difficulty) and finds the pain of a pap smear unbearable; she doesn't have penetrative sex at all.

I am wondering if anyone out there knows anything about this issue, and whether cups just might not be suitable for her at all. Obviously she's hesitant to invest in the outlay cost without knowing for sure that she'd be able to use it. But she's keen on the idea...so it would be a shame if there wasn't a way around this.

Any advice, comments or suggestions would be great.

Thanks in advance.
