Going to China

I am going to spend about a year in China, and I was wondering if anyone on this community lives/has lived in China and could tell me about Chinese cultural attitudes toward menstruation. I'm not too worried, because I prefer to be discreet about my cup and cloth pad use, but I thought I should ask anyway, in case anyone has any good advice. I've heard that tampons are virtually impossible to find there. I have also heard that tap water is not safe to drink. Should I wash my cup in bottled water? I don't really know what else to ask, but any advice would be appreciated. (I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my period will come the week before I leave!) Thanks!
