Aaack - I hate my divacup & mooncup UK isn't shipping to the states

I used to have a mooncup UK but I burnt it on my stove when I forgot it during sterilisation -- but that is another story.  (blush)

I bought a divacup and HATE it.  I leak constantly -- I think it's too flexible or something.

I really liked my Mooncup UK and tried to reorder, but they emailed & said they weren't selling in the US right now.

What is the closest to the Mooncup UK (stiff rim & general shape) that I can get state-side?

Thank you!!

Done with Insteads

Well after some time of trying both, I have given up on Insteads. They just do not work with my body right which means I leak with them quite often.  They were a good stepping stone in getting used to the Diva cup, which I have never leaked with other then first month.  But now am very used to the Diva cup, and doubt I will ever use anything else as it works perfect.

However, I have an almost full box of Insteads if anyone would want them.....particularly if anyone is in Pittsburgh.

Also, anyone using insteads just a reminder to scroll down to other post I made a few months back about thier contest if you are interested......the deadline is this friday and you get a free box of insteads just for entering. More and money if you win. Just want to let people know (no i have nothing to do with the contest, and as I am no longer using insteads, I am not even entering for the free box)

Leaking Only When Reclining

Hi everyone!

I've been using a Diva Cup for six to eight months now (I can't remember the exact month I got it anymore) and by the spring of this year I thought I'd had all of the problems worked out. I am now to the point where I can insert it without any problems, pop it open, make sure it's seated properly around my cervix (O), spin it to make sure it's sealed and wipe the residual slobber (when there is any - there often isn't) from around the outside of it.

However, the last two months my body/Diva Cup has been playing a new game that's not in the least amusing and this morning resulted in me scrubbing menstrual blood out of my mother-in-law's baby blue bathroom mat. (This is why I also hate bathroom mats - I just have tile when it's up to me.) It seems that, on my heaviest day (and only on my heaviest day, no other time during my cycle) my Diva Cup will leak when I go from a reclining position to a seated/standing position. This means first thing in the morning when I wake up (hence the disaster this morning - the floodgates opened this morning during my morning bathroom routine, and NONE of it made it into the cup - a whole night's worth of bleeding made it on to the floor) and any time during the day when I might be reclining - on the sofa to watch tv, to read a book, etc.

Any other position is fine. Just a few minutes ago I had a leak from reclining. Between this morning's disaster and the current one, I had gone on a twenty-minute brisk walk with my mother-in-law and dog, had worked on the computer (seated), had been up and down from my chair several times, no problems, no leaks, no discomfort. Leaned back to read a book for about ten or fifteen minutes, got up to answer the doorbell, and on my way back to my room - bam. Leaking. I felt it immediately, so thankfully there was only a small spot in my underwear, but it annoyed the CRAP out of me. When I took my cup out to check it, it was half-full, which meant it had worked all morning UNTIL that point.

I've looked through the leaking tags, and I know some others here have posted similar problems with leaking when they first get up or when they're reclining, but I haven't seen any posts with a definite solution to it. :/ I looked at the size charts in case it may be a problem of stiffness/size, and the Diva Cup is one of the big(ger) cups out there. Am I just going to have to try to never recline on that one day of the week, and/or buy cloth pads for the overnight hours? I'm no stranger to the "mad dash to the bathroom" first thing in the morning, as my period used to START then, and I could sometimes make it to the bathroom before I stained my underwear. However, I'm going back to college for my Master's degree this fall and will be living in the dorms again - which makes the "mad dash" nigh impossible, because even if I were to make it down the hall, there's no guarantee that any toilet or shower stalls will be available. :/

Article relevant to Hydrogen Peroxide cup cleaning?

I was messing around on Google and came across this article:

in which a German team mentioned someone examining the surfaces of medical silicone objects disinfected with H2O2 and concluded that there was no damage: "Treated and untreated samples of silicone and polyurethane tubings were studied by scanning electron microscopy (AMR 1200; Fa. Leitz, Wetzlar, Germany). The surface was smooth; no cracks or surface alterations were found as a potential indicator of damage."

They simply wiped with H202, so I don't know about soaking, and I know that some people have expressed concerns, but this seems to at least indicate that it's not going to destroy your cup. I haven't had any problems with peroxide so far and it's one of the safer disinfectants out there, but will update if I run into problems.

Meanwhile, here's another page that rates silicone as having "excellent" compatibility with H202 at concentrations of 10%, which is at least more than 3 times what would be used for disinfecting.

Mooncup leaks

I am new to menstrual cups and this is my first cycle with my brand new Mooncup UK.

The very first time I used it, it went really well, no leaks, brilliant!

But after having emptied my cup and re-inserted it, it leaked.
The cervix is pointing into the cup, the cup is unfolded, it sits low in my vag (although I think that my vag might me on the short side).
When I inserted it for the first time, I remember hearing and feeling it popping open. It never did that again. That would of course create a neat deal inside, I guess.

I read somewhere something about inserting the cup while sucking in air into the vagina. How do you do that?

Also, what are other ways to fold up your cup? Are there pics of that or can someone give me instructions, please?

I really want to get the hang of my Moncup. After all, it went so unbelievable well the first try....
