Diva Cup discomfort

Hi there ladies! First time Diva cup user here. I was so shocked when I found it at a local store -- I thought for sure I'd have to order it online.

So tonight my period started up and I decided to give the cup a go since I've been excited about trying it. The insertion didn't seem too difficult. But now that it's in, I can definitely feel it, and it's very uncomfortable. From what I've heard, you're not supposed to feel it at all, are you? It's especially bad when I'm sitting down, or in the process of standing up from sitting down. The weird thing is that I don't feel it when I'm standing, or even when I bend over. Do I have it positioned wrong or something? I wonder if I'll have to trim the stem, but I'd hate to trim it now only to find that the stem was fine, but the positioning was off.

Any suggestions? Did any of you experience discomfort like this your first time around? Is it something you get used to?

PS: The discomfort I'm feeling is in my abdomen, around the rim of the Diva cup, not towards where the stem is.
