Well hello, I was thinking about getting a small ladycup. I am worried that it will break my hymen. I am 13 and a virgin. So all the other virgin ladycup users out there, what is your experience, will it break stretch, irritate my hymen? thank you in advance.
There have been a few other discussions regarding virginity and cup use, which can be found through the virginity tag in the list on the right :)
I would say that the effect that the cup will have on your hymen will depend on the state of your hymen. If it is too tight to fit more than a finger or two in you might face problems inserting and removing the cups. I have read on this community before that you can your fingers to gradually stretch your hymen so that you can use a cup. Cups in general are folded to be inserted - and if you have been using tampons you will find that a folded cup is around the same size as a standard tampon. Back to the hymen - not all virgins have intact hymens. They can break on their own from other activities - cycling or gymnastics for example. And that about spans my knowledge on the subject, lol.
I see you deleted your previous post following my warning about your rude language about pads. Please don't do that - your post had many responses which a whole bunch of community members had put lots of effort into, and which other people in your age and situation would have found helpful to read. I'm sad to see it gone.

A lot of things can break and/or stretch your hymen... sports, dance, general movement, etc. Very few people have a completely intact hymen (it's called an imperforate hymen), otherwise your period wouldn't be able to exit your body.
If you're wondering whether or not it'll hurt, then that's a question other people can't really answer for you. Some hymens stretch and accommodate easily, while some can be... quite resistant. It all depends on your body. I wouldn't worry too much about it though.
I remember my momma finding bloody underwear in the laundry and coming and asking awkward questions... she was just trying to make sure I was okay, but I was sure I was in trouble!
Haha. That reminds me of when I first started spotting with my period, my dad found my underwear in the GARBAGE and yelled at me for throwing them away.
Yes, the "Virgin's Guide to Cups" is a great post. There are many other good ones under the "Virginity" tag on the right. Even though the question at http://community.livejournal.com/menstrual_cups/1693714.html doesn't seem to be related, the answers go off on a really good tangent. Be sure to read them. :o)
I'll be honest, it could break your hymen, depending on what kind of hymen you have. But I wouldn't worry so much about it breaking, even if it does. As for stretching, your vagina can expand, and shrink back down when it needs to, because its a flexible muscle. Plus, having a hymen is pretty much pointless, unless you're from a culture where you MUST leave it intact until your wedding night. And even then, not everybody is born with one.
On a more personal note, the first time I had sex, I was in my early 20's. I had already been using tampons and even some sizable sex toys. But after a few months of not using any such things, and then finally having actual sex, the size of a man STILL hurt, lol. So I can imagine how much more it would have hurt if I would have still had a hymen... And that's also proof that we DO shrink after using even big things.
When you use a cup the first few times, you might experience some discomfort, but as far as pain is concerned, TRUST ME, I really think you're better off breaking your hymen with a small period product, than with your first sexual experience... Because a man is going to be bigger than a cup.
