Hey ladies, I have a poll for you here. I always thought it would be cool to be able to specify what we like in a cup, so I’m just trying to find out what qualities (specifically) most women prefer. I might submit these poll results to a few companies, haven‘t decided yet. I wanted to do 2 separate polls (one for women who’ve given birth vaginally, and one for women who have not, to see if there are common preferences), but I can’t get 2 polls into one post, and I don’t want to post twice, lol. So I’ll just sort of generalize here… Basically, the poll is about the cup you most frequently use, and what you want to be different/the same, or what you prefer in comparison to that particular cup. Have fun! Comments welcome, of course. If there's anything I forgot, go ahead and mention it, and what you prefer in that category. I'll try to add that up too.

One thing you didn't ask about: measuring lines! I don't have them but I'd like to.

I concur. I'd like that in my LC. :D

Yes! I love the measuring lines on my Mooncup, but was kinda disappointed to discover that my trial LadyCups don't have them.

Oh yes! My Lunette has two TINY little super-subtle measuring lines that I have trouble finding -- even with my reading glasses. I really wish they were easier to find and see -- preferably without my specs (which I don't wear in the bathroom.)

Also, round vs flat stem :)

Drat to both-- knew I was missing something, lol. Prolly a few other things too.

It's funny though, I thought about making a Quizilla quiz or similar, with "which cup should you get?". Maybe I'll do that with your questions + anything that comes up in the comments :)

icon love!

and i love the quiz I wish they had a company like this where you COULD build a cup. that would be neat. I bet they would have a lot of business.
Kitkitrinlu on April 5th, 2009 02:07 am (UTC)
So (slightly) more people want a shorter/narrower cup, but we all want a huge capacity? The first company to invest in TARDIS cup-technology will obviously be the winner here...

That made me snort my cup of tea! Lovin' Dr Who!

I think the Lunette actually does a great job with this - it's shorter than my MCUK, but has better capacity. It's a shape and hole placement thing.

LOL....best comparison ever.

This is probably just me being really nit-picky, but in the "Sizes" question, I voted for "more than 2 sizes", but I don't think the "stages of life" portion of that answer is necessarily accurate. We know from a lot of women in this community that getting older or having children (or not having children!) doesn't always dictate what size fits you or whether you need to change a size. I've never had any children, but I'm far from being a virgin, and am close to the age at which most cup companies start indicating I should shift to the "large" size--yet even most "small" size cups are too big for me, and I don't anticipate that changing anytime soon. I know I'm not the only one, and I would appreciate it a lot if simple natural variation in size among women with no reference to "stage of life" were a concern to cup companies as they are to end users. If you're going to bring a poll like this to the attention of cup companies, maybe that would be a salient tidbit of information to make sure they get as well?
melissa569melissa569 on April 5th, 2009 06:22 am (UTC)
Hmmm, interesting concept. But come to think of it, I myself have seen virgins use a large (well, not literally SEEN, lol), and women above 30 or who've had kids still stick with a small. Maybe I will just chuck that part, lol.
semi-titledpocochina on April 5th, 2009 06:27 am (UTC)
If I could just give the Lunette a chunkier rim to pop open more easily, or move up the holes on the MCUK to fix the capacity, I'd have the perfect cup! As it is, I have both, so I'm okay. :)
avant-tardesilkfetus on April 5th, 2009 11:31 pm (UTC)
I'm really surprised so many people like base grips! I absolutely hate all markings on the outside of the cup that I can feel.
redhead74 on April 8th, 2009 05:15 am (UTC)
I still haven't the foggiest idea what the advantages and disadvantages of a flared rim are. What are they? Anyone? I personally don't give a hoot about capacity because I have yet to hit 7.5ml in 24 hrs, but I'm guessing the "evenly wide" cups are better in that department (assuming smart hole placement, etc.)? I also don't understand what difference the number of rims would have?

I totally agree on the measuring lines. I like them.

Oh, and what was my other thing.... Oh yeah: I don't really care whether the base of the cup has grip lines/dots/swirls/etc. I just care that one can actually get a grip on it. E.g. my Diva is inside out and therefore has no "grippers" per se, but it's still really easy to grasp because the base is thick and firm and pinches in a square shape, not a "V" shape, so even if your fingers get a bit slippery, it's still really easy to grasp. Not sure how to phrase that in a poll question though, LOL.
melissa569melissa569 on April 8th, 2009 05:49 am (UTC)
I agree on the gripping thing, I prefer a cup with a thicker bottom. I'm not sure why some companies have two rims... maybe they feel like the second rim comes out a little more that the rest of the cup and forms a better seal? I would have to ask. Of course, I've never noticed a difference myself... And as for the wider rim-- I think that is meant to press more deeply into the vaginal walls, to form a tighter seal. Or to be thicker and pop open more easily, perhaps. I suppose it just depends on the needs of the cup user.

my favourite cup is the large Orange cup ! :-) flexible silicon, no writing at all, and above all, not slipping away !!!

Color
I think that if there are different color choices then they should all coast the same as the clear one...
