In keeping with the recent post about why Mooncup UK can no longer sell their product to people in the US, I followed some links and found this link: www.petitiononline.com/keeper/petition.html. The petition states that we feel that Keeper made a decision that is both confusing and unethical, and that Keeper should re-name their Moon Cup to something else. I thought it may be something that many of us would want to sign or promote.

Furthermore, someone mentioned setting up some sort of third-party system, wherein someone else would recieve packages from Mooncup UK and send them on. I live in Canada, and if anyone had some ideas on how to set that up, I'd be willing to help.

EDIT: I always wanted to say that personally, I won't be purchasing from this company because their practices are wrong, but I realize that some people will/have and there's nothing wrong with that. If you still like Keeper products, by all means, go for it. There's nothing wrong with the products, it's their business ethics I have an issue with.

Thanks for posting that link. I signed it, and will be emailing the Keeper, Inc people every day (just to annoy them a little). Why not, right?

Also, I live in the US - in Maine in a town near the Canadian border and also have a mailing address in glorious Canada (for, ahem, tax purposes), and I would be willing to help with any sort of mail system to get UK Mooncups to US buyers.

Presque Isle?

I'm from Fairfield, though I'm living in MA for a year to finish my education. It's always nice to run into other Maine people on LJ. :-)

Well, hello to a fellow Mainer! I live in Calais, actually.

Yeah, I actually considered e-mailing Keeper myself, but I wasn't sure if it would do any good. I mean, if they've been marketing this since 2002 (I think that's when the Moon Cup was released) and they've recently trademarked the name, I can't see them being willing to bother changing it. :/ Which sucks, because really, shame on them.

Have to agree - this petition has been around for a while, and been linked in this community twice previously that I'm aware of - but it doesn't seem to have made any difference. They were obviously aware of the issue when they took the name in the first place, and didn't care then so why should they care now? :(
Chibitsukichibi on February 14th, 2009 05:57 pm (UTC)
I know, but at the same time I thought - the petition probably doesn't HURT, even if it's not completely effective. And, sorry! I didn't realize it had been linked here before. I really wish Keeper would at least try to explain their side of the story or something.

Thanks for posting that, I signed the petition. The mooncup UK was my first choice but, obviously, I couldn't get it so I got a diva cup instead. Keeper naming their cup mooncup was enough for me not to support their company. That's really crappy of them to do that and yes I do believe they did it on purpose to a) keep mooncup sales out of the US, and b) purposely tricking people into buying their product. A + B = more profits. I hate companies that scam. Anyway, that's my two cents.

I think that's why they did it, too. Really, I have trouble coming up with any innocent-sounding reason for them to have done it. I mean, there are tons of names out there for them to use... and as some of the people who signed the petition said, the Keeper had a good name. Why are they deviating from the Keeper name and trying to mooch off the Mooncup UK name instead?

Thanks for letting us know. I signed :)

I think you meant 'receive packages from MCUK' not Keeper, right?

Either way, thanks for the heads up!

*changes*

What? *shifty eyes* I see no such error.

I signed it.

Thanks for posting!

Most companies don't take online petitions all that seriously, just to warn you... it's a lot easier to fake entries on an online petition than on a paper one.

Can't hurt, though.
Chibitsukichibi on February 14th, 2009 06:32 am (UTC)
Yeah, I realize that, but like you said, it can't hurt. It would be pretty hard for a paper one to circulate, since we're all so spread out. Besides, maybe it will cause enough people to send e-mails to Keeper that they'll change the name. :P It's probably a pipe dream, though.

Yes. This was set up by a community member here a while ago. Sorry to be a cynic but it hasn't had any effect yet and I doubt it will.
Chibitsukichibi on February 14th, 2009 05:58 pm (UTC)
I knew it might not have any effect, but at the same time, it's still a little something. I didn't realize it had been linked here before; sorry!

No worries, it was years ago! If anyone wants to sign it they should go right ahead :)

"There's nothing wrong with the products, it's their business ethics I have an issue with."

They trademarked a name that another company happened to want, but didn't trademark it first. I see nothing wrong with this, it happens all the time. Tough break for mooncup UK. It happens. Get over it and move on.
