Cervix questions

Okay, I feel like this is going to be a really stupid question, but I just have to ask it.  I have always thought that the cervix was the opening (like a tunnel) that connects the vagina to the uterus.  The way people talk about their cervixes here, it is as if they are an actual thing that they can feel.

I would think the cervix would be more like the absence of a body part, as opposed to something you can touch.  Does my question make sense?  Can anyone explain this to me?  I really appreciate it!
