Recommendations for first dry run

I am looking forward to getting my LadyCup in the mail later this week.  I actually ordered a small & a large in a package deal on ebay.  I'm trying to get as prepared as possible for it's arrival!  Any recommendations for the dry run?  I'm guessing the tub/shower is ideal...but actually IN water or no?  And as for position, is it just a matter of preference?  Squatting, laying, etc.  And do most people find some sort of lube is necessary?  Thanks!
