how long is the stem of the mooncup? i just got a diva cup because i lost my keeper, and i figured i'd make the switch since the idea of being able to boil the cup rally appeals to the hygiene freak in me. but the stem is just too damn short. apparently i have a cavernous vagina, since it seems most people cut their stems off. but i used the one on my keeper to help me pull it out enough to get a grip on the cup. but the diva is impossible to grip that way. and the ridges on it make it even harder.
so i was thinking it would be worth importing the mooncup if i had to. or maybe i'll go back to the keeper.
ha, i know. cavernous! i've been baring down and it doesn't really work. there's a lot of slipping and gripping. it just seems to take twice as long as the keeper did.
i'm wondering now if i should get the larger size too. i'm under 30 and childless, but i always leak the first couple of days, and i'm wondering if that could help with that. that never even occured to me.
this isn't meant to be insulting of your techinque, but i find it easier to grab if i put my foot on the toilet, and squat and bear down.... maybe that might help?
thanks. i've tried in a bunch of positions. i actually have to squat on the floor to get it out (the diva, not the keeper). i'm glad i got a receipt. i almost didn't, because the place i got the diva doesn't print receipts unless it's asked for.
the mooncup site has no pictures! i heard they don't have a guarantee though, and i would want the option of sending it back. i might just have to get a keeper again.
bearing down helps, it's just not enough. with the keeper i could grab the stem and then when i bore down it would stay put enough to get the bottom of the cup past my pubic bone. somehow the ridges make it worse. i think because it is actually less surface area to grip. if i had ridged fingers, they would lock together.
you can email them to ask how long the stem is. They do offer returns but it's entirely at their discretion, so again I'd suggest you ask them about your situation in particular and whether they'd accept a return from you. No harm in checking.
The mooncup doesn't have a longer stem.. The mooncup is short and fat, while the Diva is slightly slimmer and longer. So I don't think it would do you any good to get a mooncup.
I really doubt you have some huge, cavernous, gaping vagina of doom. It sounds like you might want to try the bigger size, and if you aren't doing them already, do kegals, and just bear down on removal.
i think i'll just go back to the keeper. i've used it for 6 years without any problem like this. i just spent 20 minutes trying to get the diva out. and it was extra frustrating because really i just needed to tug it out a bit so it would open more.
i'm sure my vagina is perfectly normal. but other people were talking about their cups being in less than a knuckle in, and mine is a bit more than an inch in, not including the stem.
If you have a cavernous vagina, then i'm sure i do too. my diva sits pretty low, i can tell when it wiggles its way up at all i have to run to the bathroom and pull it back down. and my cup sits at least an inch in.
though i've not had too much of a problem removing mine, a longer stem on the diva wouldn't bother me.
i know, not much help. i just thought i'd let you know you're not the only one who wouldn't mind a longer stem.
There's no way I'd cut the stem on my mooncup because I need it as long as possible because it has a tendency to climb upwards especially at night. Any shorter and it'd be impossible to get out but any longer and it would irritate me. If you want I could take a picture of the stem to show the length of it.
When I take mine out, I find that it's usually worked its way pretty far up in there, and I just stick my fingers on the sides of it and pinch it. That usually works pretty quickly for me.
Of course, you've probably already tried that and I'm just talking out of my ass again. ^^;;
i like your username (cthulhu oblongata). which fingers do you use? i can't get my thumb and forefinger or my thumb and middle finger around the outside at the same time.
There's a post on different cup measurements here.
Measurement-wise, the Mooncup stem is about 8-10mm longer than the Diva Cup stem. However, the Diva Cup length is greater than the Mooncup length, so overall, there's only, at most, a (damn, you made me get out the calculator) 2 or 3mm difference between the stemmed Diva and the stemmed Mooncup. (The Mooncup with the stem is longer than the Diva Cup with the stem.)
I don't know if that's enough to make a difference for you.
gendertrouble on March 14th, 2006 04:37 am (UTC) thanks
that's perfect. i don't know what to do though. that little bit could make the difference. especially because it's not ribbed the whole way. i'm not even sure how i'd get a mooncup (i'm in the US).
is it generally understood that if your cup leaks and it's the pre-birth version you should get the larger size?
